“Another Wonderful Stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2010

OK... This hotel may not be near the center of Beijing, but it is a safe lovely neighborhood. Taxis are very cheap in Beijing, and easy to travel to anywhere you wish to go. I have stayed at this hotel before, and was pleased that the service was again excellent! I stayed for two weeks, with my Zhong Guo Lao Po. Storm Li was his usual self, and always willing to help with all our needs. He will make your restaurant reservations, and possibly go with you to ensure all is good before he departs for the evening. If he is not available, then get his mobile number, and he will tell the taxi driver how to get to the restaurant. Great guy! There is a new manager (not sure if he will be taking over in the future), "Ringo" from Hong Kong, that I trust will correct a few small problems. Overall, and excellent hotel, and staff. We stayed on the executive floor. It is well worth the extra RMB for the amenities, and hospitality afforded by the wonderful club floor staff! Thanks again Storm for all you did for us, including arranging my birthday dinner... Must go to the Royal Hotpot Restaurant - EXCELLENT!!! And the Mushroom restaurant, and Peking Duck restaurants that Storm recommends are a must! I will be back again!!!

My stay at the Holiday Inn Central Plaza hotel was a very pleasent stay. The staff at the hotel was exceptionally helpful; escpecially Storm. The hotel itself is very beautiful:clean and well kept. Strom; the head concierge was very knowledgable and well versed in his recommendations for our group. Though professional Storm was also very funny and personable. He interacted very well with the staff on our behalf.

My stay at the Holiday Inn Central was absolutely wonderful. Storm Lui personally assisted our group through out our stay at the hotel. Thanks to his great level of service we were able to get around Beijing with no problems. He offered very helpful tips and suggestions that made a difference. LiLi the hotess was also exceptional. She make sure our food service was always good. The location and ambience of the hotel was great. Overall, my visit to Beijing was great thanks to the wonderful staff at the hotel. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

Our group of six experienced travelers, aged 62 and up, stayed at the Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing for six nights beginning October 9, 2009. I chose this hotel on the basis of favorable TripAdvisor reviews and the generally high marks given Storm Li, the hotel concierge. He did not disappoint! Storm was at the hotel entrance to greet us upon arrival despite our delayed flight and the late hour. He immediately led us upstairs where we were checked in at the Executive Lounge by the efficient Lisa. After a short discussion about our overall China itinerary and what services we might require, we were shown to our comfortable rooms for the night. Storm and I met every morning thereafter in the main restaurant (very good buffet breakfast) to go over our agenda for the day. While he was quick to offer advice, some of which we took, some of which we did not, Storm was never pushy or offended when we did reject a suggestion. I had done a lot of research for this trip, had extensive files, and pretty much knew what we wanted to do and see during our stay. Storm was excellent in facilitating these plans. He explained our various transportation options and provided us with a great city map. He walked us to a nearby bus stop ~5 minutes from the hotel and explained how the system worked, even down to the stop where we needed to debark for our Hutong Eats Tour. Storm also provided transportation cards. He helped me book airline tickets for internal flights, offered advice on the subway, where taxis might be hard to find, and numerous other topics. His directions were excellent, both detailed and extremely accurate. Storm recommended restaurants and went with us to a local Peking Duck place that was reasonably priced. He loaned us a cell phone in case of emergency which, fortunately, we did not need although he occasionally called us to make sure we were OK. Storm offered the services of a travel agent friend at our next stop, Xi'an, and we did use her drivers there since we needed a van to accommodate our large group. Did we tip Storm Li? No. Tipping is not encouraged in China - how refreshing that is. We did thank him profusely. All Storm asked in return was that I write a review of the hotel which I was more than happy to do.
We were very pleased with the Holiday Inn Central Plaza. The hotel is located in a quiet residential area which was a plus for us and we found transportation options to be both varied and inexpensive. This Holiday Inn is definitely not a five star but offers very good, nicely appointed rooms at an excellent senior rate. Our executive room package booked via the hotel website included breakfast, free internet, laundry, and all day access to the executive lounge where we were very well looked after by Maggie, Rain, Lisa, and several other young ladies. The snacks provided in the evening were tasty and often served as a quick, simple supper for us after a long, tiring day of sightseeing. Public areas were attractive and while the rooms themselves could use a bit more color, everything was clean and well-maintained. Would I stay at this hotel again? Absolutely! If youy need glitz and opulent surroundings, the Holiday Inn Central Plaza is not for you. What it does offer is very good, moderately priced accommodation, a service-oriented staff, and Storm Li, the consummate concierge.

Caveat: I found it difficult to reach Storm by email. Email sent to the main hotel address didn't seem to work and Skype disconnected each time the main desk tried to transfer me to his phone line. Finally after half a dozen tries over several days, an email must have gotten through and I heard from him. Just keep trying.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Central Plaza during our stay in Beijing and I wish we had found similar hotels in the other cities we visited in China. Extremely clean, spacious room, helpful and responsive personnel, honest price. The hotel is not so well located but we never paid more than 2-3 € to go to any touristic place. We had problems with the Internet but we were allowed to use the business center free of charge and the duty manager was quite responsive. Staying overnight just before we took the plane back to Spain was like staying home after some days of "adventures" in other hotels in China. Highly recommendable.

Just about everything about this hotel is fantastic. The front desk extremely friendly / courteous. Excellent English. They go above and beyond to help you out. The renovated rooms were a delight. Extremely clean. Non Smoking Room actually was non smoking (rare in China). Internet access for 90 yuan a day very well priced. But.....
....the one thing that lets its down is nothing it can control: location: it is a block inside Ring Road 1. This means that you need to pack whatever you need for the day when you leave the hotel given the main attractions in Beijing are nowhere near where this hotel is located. It also means you need to think if you buy something; you can’t simply just pop in and drop it off… Traffic means subways (15~20 min walk away: go to the 4 Line, not the 1 Line) are still a better option at certain times of the day.
Conclusion? This place is an absolute lock if you have plenty of time (or have cash for cabs, some refused to take me to/from the subway station) If you have limited time in Beijing, I would stay somewhere closer to where the attractions are. Whether I'd recommend to a friend depends on how long they are in town for. Which is a real pity because this hotel really is THAT good.
