“A definite must for the gastronomically inclined”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

If you are touristing in Beijing, then an evening here is a must. Bright red lanterns decorate numerous eateries from Russian Restaurants, to BBQ to seafod and vegetarian. You'll find 7eleven for must-have hotel snacks, a Bagel Bar and all sorts of curiosities. And yes, the red lights also indicate a (fairly tasteful and discrete) sex shop... There's the ubiquitous generic shopping mall at the metro end of the street with Starbucks et al if authenticity is not your thing.

“Great place for food”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Street was lined with restaurants. You can't go wrong with this place if you want to find some spicy food in Beijing.

“Spicy Heaven”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Tons of crayfish are consumed in this street every day. They are usually served with equal amount of hot pepers, which make them really spicy even in Sichuan standard. You may also find spicy roasted fish and spicy frogs in the countless Sichuan cusine restaurants along the street. If you are a spicy food lover, this is the heaven for you in Beijing.

“Great for solo travellers.”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

I really enjoyed my night at Gui Jie. It's very easy to find, being so close to Dongzhimen station. I exited from the north-west exit, and it's literally just to the south of the station, about 200 metres walk. I walked along the south-side of the street and there were so many different places to choose from. I ended up just randomly picking one and it was very cute, as a solo traveller, the waiter was quite nervous, owing to the language barrier (even though most menus were in English and Chinese with pictures). It was really cheap, but VERY clean and a nice area. Really good place for some great photos too, so make sure you take your camera. Gui Jie is the sort of place I will no doubt return to on my next trip to Beijing.

“Good location”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

This is right next to dongzhimen station and a perfect place to see if you only have a few hours in Beijing because you can take the airport express right to Dongzhimen. It reminds me of Beijing back in the 20's, like the area is kept in a time capsule.
