A mixture of Hutongs set against the lake with funky bars and restaurants. A great area for a few scoops on a sunny aftrnoon at the rooftop bars or the bars alongside the lake. Some crazy people there especially the current craze for girls to wear cats ears !!!! Brilliant friendly peple full of fun with a huge smile
The Reggae Bar in particular is a great way to boogie away the evening to the in house band !!!!

not recommended, too touristy. there are agents trying to pull you into their bars and their drinks are way too expensive. if you are a foreigner they will try even harder to scam

Hou hai is certainly surrounded by pretty, oriental scenery and is very, very popular with Chinese and foreigners, especially at night. The main problem is the expensive restaurants and bars - I know this is an attractive area, but the prices are very unreasonable. For instance, basic beers like Qingdao cost 40 rmb/ bottle in one place I visited. One desperate vendor offered the same for 20 rmb at a more remote location. Many Chinese understandably refuse to enter, but are happy to take pictures of elegant bars with foreigners drinking on the front decks. Disappointing how such a beautiful area has been spoilt by greed.

Beautiful lake, lots of interesting shops, street food or luxury restuarant. Pubs and bars. You can hire a bike in Hutong (small old lane) too.

a chain of lakes surrounded by greenery, we went at sunset when there were boats out, very scenic. a little tricky to find via public transit, and we didn't notice any signs directing to the area. at the end of the lakes there is a busy bar and restaurant area with lots of live music, but the prices are definitely targeted at tourists, and high even by international standards! would recommend for a stroll to check it out, but it will be pricey if you spend the evening bar hopping!
