“People everywhere”
Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

Just finished walking around the Back Lakes of Beijing on a weekend and the place is packed with people.

Lots of things and people to see. The best way to watch the world pass by is to grab a drink at one of the many bars/pubs.

There are plenty of opportunities for photography and if that's not your cup of tea, try boating on the lake.

“Rent a Paddle Boat!”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Really cool experence and perspective to rent a paddle boat just before the sun goes down. The lights and sounds from the bars can't be beat. The price for the paddle boat was resonable, however I wouldnt plan to make a night in this part of the city if you are on a budget. Granted we did not price around, but the rooftop restarant that we went too right off the bridge was overpriced and the food quality left much to be desired. If we did it again we would eat before coming down to the area and instead just grabbed a drink or two from one of the rooftop bars and takein the area.

“Nice but crowded - and pricy...”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Definitely worth a visit. The lake is very far from clean, so do not go swimming like some locals do (even in winter). Try to avoid weekends when the weather is nice - unless you want to meet around one of the 20+ million people living in Beijing. The restaurants are overly priced - even compared to other 'tourist areas' of Beijing. Expect around 15-20 USD for a pizza, expect 4 USD and up for a (local) beer etc. You may need to pay 15 USD or more for a foreign beer in this place

“More for party goers”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Place is pretty with the huge lake in middle. At <10 degrees, there are even some people who are taking dips! Presumably to strengthen their immune system. Loads of bars and clubs, unfortunately not many average/reasonable eateries around. There is a hutong alley around, thus nice for tourisy shopping. Other than that, good for stroll with loved ones.
Choose a place to stay around there just to enjoy the this HouHai (15m walk). Good place for relaxation. BeiHai park is just across but didn't enter as entrance fee chargeable.

“Good evening stroll”
Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

Nice place to walk at night. Unique experience hearing the different speakers blaring different singing from each bar across the lakes. Most of the artists were not bad. Cute little shop called Kodo tucked amongst the madness.
