“"Best Brews" swindle”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Okay hotel.

But one thing just irked me so much I had to write this review.
They have the attractive Four Points Best Brews ad, come taste these great beers!

The lobby bar staff had no idea what I was talking about. I had to walk them to the poster and ask, where those great beers are. Well, apparently only available outside at a barbeque spot (it was raining, so it's closed).

Ok, I'd just have an ordinary Carlsberg draft then, from their drink list. Sorry sir, not available.
Ok, an ordinary Tsingtao draft then. Yes sir. Well the taste of the Tsingtao was foul, probably uncleaned tap and pipes or a bad production batch. I almost sent it back.
Ok, let's try a German bottled Warsteiner next. Sorry sir, not available.
Ok, Kronenbourg. Sorry sir, not available.
Ok, Singha. Sorry sir, not available.
So why do you have all those on your drink list, and what do you actually HAVE?? Only small bottles of the most bland, ordinary mass market beers, apparently.

"Best Brews"... Not!!!

By the way, this must be like the fourth or fifth time this happened to me at various Four Points I have visited, gullible for the "great brews" ad, while the staff apparently couldn't care less about beer quality, or about keeping a stock of the items that are on the drink list... :-(

This is not an issue for non-beer drinkers though!
Otherwise the hotel is ok, if you don't mind the relatively remote location.

Booked a tour through Chinatour.com and was pleasantly surprise of the exceptional accommodation we received. This hotel rocks! Excellent customer service, rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was my favorite part of our stay! Excellent customer service, amenities were top notch. I have no complaints!

Thankfully, no dreaded smoky room, clean room with comfy bed, comfortable room temp in April, can't stand the smoky bar/cafe area, lots of varieties for breakfast buffet, the most disappointing Chinese breakfast for our 9 day 7 night Beijing-Shanghai-Suzhou-Hangzhou trip! (why? I thought we're in China!), not on par with hotels in Taiwan (even 3* hotels breakfast buffets in Taiwan are too tasty to excercise self control.). The super sweet Taiwan Mango was very popular, I survived on smoked salmon salad and cheeses every morning.

Don't expect too much for the food court in the basement shopping level. Be careful if you walk a block to dine at the nice Hunan restaurant on the same side of the street, delectable food but EXTREMELY spicy, we're told the hot pot restaurant across from the hotel was good. Maybe we expected too much, even the very famous Peking duck @ Quanjude was nothing special, no choice for real gourmet food when you're with a tour group. Sign....

Room Tip: Ask for front facing higher floor, better view and larger rooms, told by other luckier tour members...

In traveling recently we have heard of 6 and even 7 Star hotels which in our opinion dimiishes the meaning of the 5 Star rating. Our recent stay at the Four Points in Beijing as part of a China Tour Company stop over demonstrated what a true 5 Star hotel is about. The Lobby, Room, Amenities and attention to detail left nothing wanting. The morning buffet offered a welcome break to the daily and evening chinese meals. The late night burgers and fries can compete with any stateside restaurant.

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view of the City.

I am an SPG Platinum and I stay here often to get points while in Beijing. I have always found it to be comfortable and reliable, if a little bit basic. It is much cheaper than the other SPG properties in Beijing. The windows are very thin. Make sure you get a room on the GARDEN SIDE. The rooms on the side of the main road are very noisy.

Room Tip: Get a garden side room. They are MUCH quieter.

Stayed here for 3 days.

Location -
Good. There is a big mall nearby to spend time in the evening

Staff -
Ok. Because of the winter season, the entire hotel was centrally heated. The room temperature maintained was not comfortable at all (Around 29-30 degrees). Complaint to the staff for non operational AC in my room. The staff told me to open the room windows to let the cool air come in the room.

Food -
Variety of options for Vegetarians in breakfast.
The Italian restaurant was a good experience from a food and service perspective.

Rooms -
Spacious

We travelled with China tours and the check in was fast and efficient. The buffet was excellent for breakfast but the dinner buffet is pricey at 343 yuan but again the quality of the food is great. The room was clean and top quality in terms of finish and amenities. The only thing is the glass shower design ensures that water leaks through onto your bathroom floor which becomes very slippery as it is beautiful tile. The pool asks for a hair cover they force you to buy if you don't have for 30 yuan which is $5 but you don't need it for the hot tub. Overall this is a quality hotel with great amenities and western or oriental food of great quality.
