Wonderful to see real Chinese way of life. Remember that restaurant areas are filthy and most do not have restrooms. We were told to use the alley. I can't make this stuff up. Still, I wouldn't miss.

It was so fun to see people enjoying a relaxing Sunday afternoon in this beautiful park. We rode the ferry across and saw the dragon screen, watched tai chi, played hide and seek.

Beautiful area, great guide! See my review of Catherine's service to see our five day itinerary with four young children in Beijing and a 2 day excursion to Xi'an.

No need to line up or something, just get a ticket at the entrance, fast and convenient, nice park, take a blanket and pack in some KFC / McDonald's etc etc rent a boat and enjoy your stay! At least one afternoon is necessary to stay, no rush or fast track speed, NOOO WAY. If you don't know what that white tower has been used for, play AGE OF EMPIRES III and play China, build it and start using the tower to win the war.

I've been here twice this spring, they already planted flowers before the peonies had opened and the boats had started. I don't recommend coming on the weekend as it was mass kaos trying to buy entrance tickets when people just push and don't que.. The island is my favorite with all the round wall holes and rocky walk ways.

We visited after the forbidden city and jingshan park and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the park- we just wandered around exploring all the park has to offer- it is very lovely.
