“Be warned- do not go on a hazy night!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

I love tall buildings and getting a bird's eye view of the city is one of my favorite ways of seeing a new city. But I wasn't so happy with the CCTV tower (don't confuse this with the new CCTV Headquarters building which is on the opposite end of the city). We went at night (ticket counter is open till 10 pm) and paid 70 RMB per person. The entrance is pretty nice with a park full tyre shaped structures with some chinese writing on it. After going thru security, you get to the top smoothly in good time. It was nice but really windy at the ring-shaped open air viewing platform. But sadly, we couldn't see much at all through the smog. There is a revolving restaurant (at 221 m, it is the highest and hence very expensive too), and a TV cultural hall. On a clear night, this would have been greatand you could see all the magnificent structures in beijing- but do not waste your money on a hazy night!

“Great for anyone who loves a birds' eye view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2011

I don't miss an opportunity to check out an observatory tower while travelling. CCTV Tower, compared to the sites in the historic center of Beijing, feels like an unloved child of the tourist circuit (whether Chinese or foreign). I had a great time getting views of Beijing from the top observatory deck. It is open-air, allowing for glass pane-less viewing/photos opportunities, and actually had the deck to myself for quite a while. If you have an early morning or evening on a clear day with some time to spare, take a trek further out. Tip: The trip using the Beijing Metro will require a LOT of walking, but is doable if you have the energy.
