Owner description: Located only a few hundred meters from the existing Summer Palace, these ruins used to be a grand palace and park built under the Qing emperors in the 18th century, but was later destroyed by French and British troops during the Second Opium War (1860-1862).

This place is not as famous as other sights. Quiet park, needs about 5-6 hours at least to cover leisurely. The ruins in the park were great. Visit this place before it is a must see place in big tour group's itineraries.

This place is very peaceful in some areas and much better than the newer Summer Palace. In the southern part of the park, you can feel like you are totally alone. For a fraction of the price of the Summer Palace, you can enjoy an older and more atmospheric place.

The palace is more of a park. There are some palace ruins to see but the best part is the grounds. The area is huge so make sure you have a few hours and are ready for a long walk. There are a few lakes, and lots of places to take pictures. If you walk to the back of the park the are a lot less people and you start to forget you are in Beijing at all.

We visited Yuanmingyuan on weekdays by Mac 2013 during the spring season. When I came only I realized there are so big until 108 main attractions inside it.However according to what i heard from others one tour guide, the 107 attraction had been destroyed during 1860 and 1900.We spend 5 hours here because the place were so amazing although now ruins everywhere. We also saw very beautiful flower around Fuhai area.
