“Amazing place in the heart of Beijing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

Was recommended to go here by a Chinese friend. Easy to get to on the Metro. Go to Yonghegong station exit C and turn left. Walk about 200 metres and it's on the left. Entrance fee is 25 RMB. Lots of incense burning worshippers. Sculptures, artefacts, architecture is incredible. Look out for the largest single carving in the world from a single sandalwood tree (Buddha - complete with Guiness Book of Records plaque). Soak in the atmosphere and revel in this ancient centre of prayer and pilgrimage. However, only make a wish if you are prepared to come back and say thank you if the wish comes true!

“Serene chanters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

We had a large group of colleagues who visited the Lama temple on our assignment in Beijing. It is very conveniently located outside the subway stop on Line 2.

There is an interesting shopping area outside thee temple, with various incense vendors, and vendors selling beads and necklaces made out of carved nuts.

The temple is gorgeous. The Buddha statue is awe inspiring. We were lucky to hear some Tibetan monks chanting.

They do not like pictures taken when the chanting service is going on. The incense burning can also be overwhelming.

“Buddahs Everywhere”

So many temples back to back and unique, including the largest wooden Buddah, among many others you will find! Amazing energy and spirit there.

“A respite in an otherwise noisy city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

Once inside the gate, Lama Temple is a very pleasing and insightful look at a working buddhist temple. Many of the signs and inscriptions are in english (sort of, anyway) and they do an excellent job of explaining the history of the Temple.

“A hidden gem: peaceful and beautiful.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Less overwhelming than the Summer Palace and a much calmer, more spiritual experience. It's an actual working Tibetan Buddhist temple, so local visitors tend to be more respectful and less oafish than elsewhere in Beijing. Well worth a visit for the exquisite architecture and impressive statues. An hour is enough time for it.
