Owner description: Once a summer retreat for emperors, this 290-acre park is still a retreat for the crowd-weary tourist, who can relax here or stroll around ancient pavilions, mansions, temples, bridges and huge lake, stopping occasionally at a shop or tea-house.

So calm and peaceful, yet so big. It is a huge complex and it's just unbelievable. It is so beautiful and picturesque.

“Another must-see experience.”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

A beautiful retreat for the nobility that cost a lot of lives to build (and dig, for the lakes, by hand.) Definitely worth visiting.

“Must see”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

A must see in beijing
If you go in winter you must take a walk over the frozen lake.
You will see some signs saying you are not allowed to, but behind the signs there's a lot of people walking and skating.

“Lovely setting but try to choose the time of year”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

This has a lovely setting near to the water, but I would recommend going in April when it is a little warmer but not too warm. Also, you would then benefit from more of the spring flowers and foliage being out.
