Beijing Scitech Hotel
Ranked #3,295 of 6,556 Hotels in Beijing
Reviewed April 7, 2013

It wasn't so long ago that Scitech was a really good hotel for the money. Seems it's lately been a path to just being a reasonably priced hotel. The place is in desperate need of renovations. Rooms are shabby; clunky TVs date from the 1970s or 80s; lighting is poor; bathrooms are small and plain. Old facilities mean that it's difficult to keep the place clean. The room I just stayed in had water damage on the ceiling and moldy, dirty walls. The room was freezing cold and adjusting the heating control only resulted in blowing cold air or colder air!

On the positive side, the location is great. The staff are efficient (if not terribly friendly). The beds, linens and towels are excellent quality. Water pressure good and lots of hot water. The price is indeed reasonable.

Suggestion to management: invest in renovations and increase the price a bit.

This hotel tries to deceive you with their fully renovated lobby. Yes, their lobby could pass for a 4 star hotel. Once you step out of the elevator, you are immediately transported back the 1980's. I'll post photos of the things that you can find in the hotel room and you will see what I mean.

The only two good things of this hotel are the position (centrally located and close to the subway) and the cheap room rates. Everything else is pretty bad: rooms are extremely old and quite dirty. The beds are hard, TVs are old, not working properly and with only 3 channels in English language. The common areas (including the gym and swimming pool) would also need a renovation and are below a 3-star level. The staff is unfriendly, unwelcoming and badly trained.

Average room, in need of refurbishment, breakfast average at max but location is truly good and price very reasonable. Would be prepared to pay more if my remarks would be dealt with. Bar almost under hotel is worth a visit with good dj's even on Monday night.

1 night here after train journey from Hangzhou. Not clean but not dirty - just tired and in need of refreshing. A place to stay and that is it. Good location , not good rooms surly staff in the restaurant and the food was 1 star only. There is a 7/11 nearby and of course metro and the topurist and business sites. I won't go back.

Scitech is an older hotel that could use a good facelift, but like a loyal old horse, the place still delivers reliable and consistent service. The rooms are generally clean, albeit a bit on the small side; same for the bathrooms. Beds, sheets, pillows and towels alll great! Front desk staff always professional and efficient. Location is excellent. TVs are old and the internet seems to be more erratic than in the past. This is not a 5-star hotel, but for the cost, it's as good as it gets in Beijing.

On a short trip to Beijing in may, We four of us stayed here for 5 nights. Had booked 2 standard twin rooms from Mumbai based on the reviews shared, I really didn't regret in the first place because of its close proximity to subway station, supermarkets, silk street( xiushui street) the market known for fake goods which I feel is not worth visiting. We didn't had the chance to use their pool or spa so couldn't mention their worth. The breakfast was just ordinary, rooms were neat, spacious but the decor seems bit sub-stand and dilapidated. The entrance foyer, the lobby is huge and well decorated. We got a chance to hit the night club named " Banana and Spicy". It's a really big club with a huge dance floor, that was full of locals hopping and popping. The only problem with the Hotels good, efficient and really hospitable staff is the language otherwise would not might spending few nights on another trip back to Beijing...
