“Typical Chinese Five Star”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

I did not mean to book this hotel until my room pre-booked in the financial area was cancelled due to late arrival. I had to find a decent hotel and finally located this one. This is a typical Chinese five star hotel with good decoration and modern facilities except great service. The location of this hotel is great! It is now far from many major spots in town including the Forbidden City, Tianmen Square etc. Also, I was very surprised to realize that during my three days stay it takes only 20 minutes by car to the financial area which is in the West City. Considering the notorious traffic jam in Beijing, 20 min from the East to the West is not bad at all!

I stayed at this hotel in March 2012. The standard is high, rooms very comfortable and the staff helpful and polite. The breakfast offers something that at least remotely reminds of “western” cuisine, very helpful for a stubborn person as me. The location is perfect, just in the middle of the city centre (felt like that anyway), and just 10 minutes by car to the Palace. A nice place to stay.

We last visited Beijing about five years ago before this most recent stay. Our family used this hotel two or three times before. We will continue patronizing the establishment but service has diminished.

The location is outstanding, just north of Wanfujin pedestrian mall. It is easy to get anywhere from the hotel.

Concierge was excellent last stay. Each one we worked with spoke fluent English and could get tickets to the most obscure venues. It was a real pleasure working with them as they tried really hard. This visit was different. Only a couple folks spoke *passable* English and they refused to book anything but typical tourist shows. For example, if you wanted to go to an over priced ersatz Chinese opera for RMB300, they could do that. Trying to get tickets to a real full length opera that locals attend for RMB50 was out of the question.

The western breakfast was spectacular our last stay. It is fine now, just nothing terribly impressive. Chinese breakfast is quite good.

Sunworld does a great job of maintaining the facility. Everything is in good shape and very clean. The rooms were always small but this visit they seemed even smaller as there was clearly a renovation since last visit. It would be interesting to hear from others to see if they have the same impression. The layout within the room was inefficient. For example, drawer space is insufficient and the wardrobe takes up a fair amount of space but used primarily for hanging clothes.

This is a good spot for kids. Next door is a plaza in front of a church. The courtyard is a big open space with music for kids to listen in the evening. Everything is easy right in the hotel but it is dear. A short walk gets you to all kinds of eating establishments that are every bit as good but less costly (maybe not as fancy).

We will continue to stay here on visits to Beijing. It is unfortunate that some things are not as good as before. I hope they endeavour to improve.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights at the end of a work trip. I normally stay at the crown plaza next door but thought I would give this one a go. The room was lovely, good details and well furnished and quite inexpensive. Unfortunately the hotel has a beautiful foyer but ruins it by having strap barriers to control checkin and checkout crowds, tacky. There was a conference on in the hotel too which was quite loud. The breakfast area was very strange and there were only large tables of 10 where you had to share???? I decided to just eat in my room. The staff on room service we fantastic. Although they couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak Chinese a porter came to my room and took my order personally from the menu, a very nice touch.
Overall I liked the room and would stay here again. I certainly wouldn't pay more than $150 per night and if you consider this a 4 star experience you won't be dissapointed with he location or room. But it is a chinese hotel so don't expect a western 5 star experience. Tip ask for an outside facing room not an atrium one.

First this hotel was sold to us as Five star Hotel, not at all. Very disappointe regarding this hotel, the there was mold on the shower. We have visit this hotel April 2012 spring time, hotel didn't put the Air condition at all, room were very hot, we had to request for windows to be open, no A/C on breakfast area very uncomfortable. We found out after that Goverment of China regulate air condition usage on public area. Tempeture on our visit to China was about 75-85 degree.

Room Tip: Rooms no A/C on spring time

was good value for money , close to Forbidden City ect, easy subway access. More Chinese style than western style. Location is excellent. Breakfast is more chinese style, though good, get there early as they do not replenish that often. If you are on the church side you can watch the group dancing at night.
