I spent 3 nights here during a summer tour with the Mistral tour operator. Firts of all it is important to inform the guests that this is the same hotel mentioned on the travel documents (Holiday Inn Changfeng Hotel). I was very lucky because I had a very big room, with also the kitchen and sofas. Very nice stay, everything was very comfortable and clean. the only problem is that the window can not be open. Every comfort is available in the room. you can not connect with wi-fi in the rooms, but there is the cable free if you have your own notebook or netbook. I recommend to change your money at the reception desk instead that in the airport or official banks and change offices, because they apply commissions while in the hotels not and they are very fair. The restaurant is good enough, with just had the buffet dinner. also breakfast is very full of things but not too many kind of croissants, it is more a chinese breakfast buffet with small international dishes.

We were a party of four who stayed for six nights in two rooms in mid May 2012. Checked in was smooth and we got a fruit tray and wine as welcome gift upon check in. However, we were a little disappointed for not receiving additional Platinum member upgrade. That matter was resolved to our satisfaction the same evening by Brain, the manager on duty.

The breakfast spread is a good mix of Chinese and Western. The pastries were delicious.

The location of the hotel is in a part of Beijing where several big hospitals are located among post WWII Chinese middle class aparment housing stock. Do not expect historic architecture or other big international hotels around here. One of our members developed a bad cough in Beijing and was able to see a doctor in the big hospital nearby. The fee for a consultation with a doctor was minimum, but the prescription rather expensive. Good thing it was effective.

It is interesting to be in an average urban neighborhood, where average Beijingers live, work, commute, eat, and shop. The hotel is about equal distance, roughly 12 minutes walk, from the Wukesong subway station (closer to Tiananmen Sq), and the next stop after Wukesong, Yuquanlu. This is Line 1 of the subway, the oldest line built decades ago in Beijing.

The closest McDonald is near the Yuquanlu stop if that is important to you. There is also a branch of the most famous Peking Duck restaurant in town near the McDonald.

Beijing is a big city with huge crowds/noisy unrelentless traffic/air polution. It was most relaxing to return to the hotel after being out and about in the city. I used the beautiful pool / gym area a lot.

Finally, I would say this Holiday Inn is easily in the class of a Crown Plaza in the USA. We had a very enjoyable stay.

This is a very nice Holiday Inn (quite new 2005) not like the ones in the US. At least a 4 star hotel. Since I am a Platinum member, they upgraded my 600 RMB standard room to a Executive 6th floor gem with all the perks. The staff is very professional and nice. The Thai restaurant in the hotel is one of the best Thai meals I've had in 8+ years of traveling to Beijing. For my overnight stay(s) before a connecting flight, I will stay here again for sure.

If you are visiting and sightseeing, this hotel is outside of the 4th ring but on the main drag that leads to T Square and the Forbidden City. A taxi will run 35-40 RMB (each way) with little traffic. Add $$ for peak traffic time. However, if you are a smart traveler and do not mind taking the bus, there is a bus line that will take you all the way to T Square for 1 RMB. There is also the subway (closed after midnight or 11 pm).

The internet speed is one of the best I've had, and this blows away the run-down Crowne Plaza Wafujing I used to stay at. It is also much cheaper that the Intercontinental (another Priortity Club Hotel). I am not sure why someone said it was slow, but maybe it was a bad connection day. China has lots of those. Things in China do not always work.

4 stars Outstanding Hotel
*location for center ring knocks off 1 star Otherwise it's a 5 for me.

Great deal on a nice newer Beijing Hotel with a soft bed. You'll save money by staying here than a center ring hotel, and you'll be able to justify it with the low off-set of taxi, bus, and subway fare.

Room tip: AC is only turned on during the summer months. The windows open, so just shut off the heater which is always blasting.

I always stayed at Beijing Chang An West anytime I visit to Beijing.Because there is a good hospitality that give us a feeling of relaxation. And staff have a spirit of good service and frendly. Residential location is a long way from central area. However,as local transportation, there are the nearest bus-station(line 728) in front of the hotel. we can go to XIDAN without transferring.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Chang An West in Haidin Distt of Beijing which is on Metro Line 1 and about 7-8 stops away from Wadfujing the main street of Beijing. This hotel is in a residential area whic is safe at al times with lots of local shops/stores and restaurants nearby. We booked it directly on their website and paid GBP48 per room only. Its a 4 star hotel, has few restaurant inc a Thai, swimming pool/sauna that was under maintenance and free wifi was provided in all public areas. They also offer money exchange service for a good rate. The staff speak English enough to communicate and where they dont understand they end it with a smile or a laugh :)
Transport - Local taxis are available widely and are cheap, avoid using private taxis, they are a con. We did all sightseeing using metro that cost CNY2 per ride.
Sightseeing - Tiananmen Square, Forbidden city, Summer place, Olympic park (Birds nest stadium), Beijing Zoo for Pandas, Temple of Heaven. There are 2 different locations you can visit Great Wall. Badaling- very touristic and busy and can be hard to even take proper photos, and the other one we cisited is Mutianyu section of the Great wall which is about 2 hours away from Beijing. You can take bus 867 from metro stn. Dognizhem and cost CNY16 pp each way and leaves twice in the morning 0700 & 0830 and returns twice at 1400 & 1630. Alternatively you can also take express bus 916 to a city 20mins before Mutianyu and then take a taxi for about CNY80. You will enjoy Mutianyu section better as its quiet part of the wall. You can take the cable car/chair lift upto the wall and come back down by Toboggann (slide)which is fun for aged (11-60 years only).
Wandfujing road is main shopping areas for those good brands, but for those bargains and genuine fakes you can visit Xidan, Yonganli (Silk market) but bargain hard.
The hotel caters for disabled access throughout.
The best money exchange rate available is in the bank. Stick to local taxis, public transport and local authority for any info.
