The hotel is a bit old, but is a big property with many shops and restaurants on the site, and more right in the neighborhood. We stayed there 4 nights with a group of high school students and it was perfect. There were things to eat and shops, plus they enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The breakfast buffet was really great and the service was good too. For the price it was convenient and met our needs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not adjacent to construction site next door.

Nice place to stay with a good buffet for breakfast. Taxi ride to the Pearl Market, Silk Market and Forbidden City. Not the hustle and bustle of downtown. 30 to 45 minutes from the airport. Rooms are clean walls a little bit thin, but nice place to stay. Staff is friendly and helpful

Room Tip: There are a few wings. Choose one on the off street side.

I stayed at Metropark Lido hotel in May 2013 with my friend and was thrilled with this hotel. Rooms were spacious and clean with big and comfortable beds. Bathroom was also clean and well kept. There was also a big tv and air conditioning. We had only breakfast and it was great. Lots of different food and fresh fruit. And the big plus is the wifi in every room. Overall great hotel!

This is a review of the Lido service apartments down Jiang Tai Lu, NOT the hotel itself. These apartments are owned and operated by the hotel, and there are more of them right next to hotel and mall, but ours was down the block.

The pluses:

First of all, the location is fantastic. It's right next to the awesome Oriental Taipan Spa where you can pop in and get a great clean affordable foot massage or whatever. It's also around the corner from Jenny Wangs (akin to Jenny Lous) import food market, Starbucks, and several ex-pat favored restaurants in addition to night sidewalk food kittycorner from Starbucks. It's also very very close to the old time Beijing neighborhood of GaoJiaYuan so you can experience a real 'hood (which also includes an off-label American Girl Doll store, fwiw). I have long loved that neighborhood.

Secondly, these are apartments so you have a sitting-room as well as bedroom and full and fully equipped kitchen, laundry machine, iron, etc. We stayed a couple of weeks so having all those house-type amenities was essential. We had service (cleaning, changing linens and towels) three times a week, had them bring us a giant water dispenser and jug before we got there, and just had to call the operator and pay the equivalent of US$3 to have a new one brought.

Thirdly, the Lido gave us access to their country club and swimming pool, which are located next to the hotel/mall. Since BJ is so hot in the summer, having a pool was super helpful. I suspect you have to negotiate this access up front when you are negotiating your rate for your room/apt. Very very few people seem to use the pool so I suspect it is simple to have this added on.

Fourth, the staff was ultra friendly and helpful even though I don't speak much Chinese and they didn't speak much English. At check-in the desk staff brought over an English speaking manager of some kind who helped us all the way along, gave us his cell phone number so I could text him during our stay and in general made sure things ran smoothly for us.

The minuses:

There is no subway in Lido. Taxis are cheap and plentiful, but the location might not suit everyone.

There is a huge, huge Kempinski hotel being built next door. Though our bedroom window looked out on the construction which continued all night, it wasn't as noisy as one might fear, and the black out curtains did their job with the flood lights. But still. Maybe you don't want to be right next to all that. There's also a coal burning plant right there and its smokestack was spewing forth even during the summer.

The unit itself was run down, smelled mildewy and wasn't built with high-end finished to begin with. This is the real reason I can't give the place five stars. Other posters have mentioned that the hotel itself is showing signs of age and the service apartments are as well.

The hotel is old, I believe the first hotel for Expats in Beijing, it shows! This is my first visit to the Metropark (Holiday Inn) Lido. in 8 years. It is well positioned for embassies and consulates. And is close to the downtown core.
The only things that have changed since my last visit, is that it is older, the staff and the quality of service is not as good. Unfortunately this is not shown in the price per night (it's quite expensive for the quality).
As the hotel is so old, there were real issues with regards the plumbing in the bathroom. On my first night it took 18 minutes to get warm'ish water in the shower. after mentioning this to the staff, the following day took only 14 minutes for hot water.
If you're on vacation an need a base for Beijing, the Lido is still great.

Dear guest,
Thank you for your recent stay with us in Beijing.
We have learnt that you are lido’s old friend from your words. On January 1st 2011, the hotel changed the name to Metro Park Lido Hotel, and began to be control by Metro Park Hotel management group which is owned by HK CTS. Change is happening at the lido hotel, from holiday Inn Lido hotel to Metro Park Lido hotel, but our room facilities, service and our dedication to making sure that your stay is still as comfortable and relaxing as possible!
At lido, our mission is to completely delight and satisfy our guests. We are committed to making a difference every day; continually getting better to keep us the best.Thank you again for your comments!
Warm regards,
Grace

The hotel was part of a tour so there was no choice. But from reading the reviews on Tripadvisor I was prepared for a room with no window. I got the claustrophobic accommodation for a night and requested a room change which fortunately was available. The room was adequate. Definitely the new room with the window on the 4th floor was an improvement. Even the bedding had an extra coverlet at the bed's end. The bath amenities were enough.

The hotel is in a real neighborhood so there are other restaurants to choose from and an office building is attached with a Starbucks and few other recognizable shops to also get food and sundries. The hotel restaurant is okay for breakfast but if it hadn't been included I would have been satisfied with some of the other shops. The pool is good. Don't forget a swim cap.

Do not have any the hotel do your laundry. The service is more expensive than any 5 star hotel. The prices were marked on the sheet and my laundry pick up was definitely one of those tired travel mistakes. $100 for about 10 pieces most of it underwear. But what is irksome was the most expensive laundry in China ruined 2 shirts. When I spoke to the desk clerk he either couldn't understand the problem or chose not to. Even the Chinese guide with our group brought the problem to his attention. Not great customer satisfaction. That kind of customer relation and service is not what makes an acceptable hotel.
