“Excellent luxury hotel in the heart of Beijing, expensive”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Stayed in one of the "Premier" rooms, 10th floor, right in the middle. Room overlooked the plaza, and sitting at night looking at the nice fountains and light, and the busy street in the background, was great, with an elevated, "city lights" feeling. Room is recently renovated and top luxury throughout, with a somewhat modern and understated design, really liked it. Luxury touches abound, including a plush bathrobe, slippers, another kimono-like robe, three gorgeous Asian pears in a bowl, lint brush for the clothes, complimentary shoe shine, etc. Such hotels are highly addictive. Service is also excellent. Location is hard to beat, walking distance to the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, posh mall right next to the hotel, and lively back streets with lots of food and trinkets right behind hotel.

Cons: expensive, room with tax was about $300/night, this is Manhattan territory. Sushi dinner with 7 nigiri pieces, one roll, and mineral water was $60. Similar quality food for lunch next day at a conveyer belt place in the mall next door was less than $20. Food at the hotel breakfast buffet was plentiful and good but not great (included in my room price for my deal but otherwise think $40.)

Tips: make sure you stay in the renovated rooms. Mall next door has a TON of places to eat on the lower floor, some as cheap as $5 for a ramen bowl for lunch.

Dear Reviewer,
Wow, thank you so much for this excellent and detailed review of Grand Hyatt Beijing on Tripadvisor. Your valuable recommendation on our recently remodelled guestroom- the sophisticated design and the spaciousness- goes a long way in helping to promote the hotel, both locally and internationally. Indeed, the professional customer service and the hotel's convenient location; just a few steps away from Wangfujing food and shopping street are two main reasons why Grand Hyatt Beijing is the preferred choice among our guests. Look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Best regards.

Shame it was just a one day business trip because this hotel is tops.

It started with a personal greeting at the arrival of my car from Jane from the Club Lounge. Then a brisk walk upstairs to Club reception, a warm welcome and a very nice cup of team. Jane gave me all the information I needed and provided details of the car reserved by the hotel for a meeting the next day. I was also shown the lounge and given the keys to my room on the 17th. I was also welcomed to use the lounge and shower facilities after I checked out as my flight wasn't until 2300 the following day - really, really appreciated.

Room was very comfortable and with all the amenities I could have wanted. Bed was really comfortable.

Club Lounge was a welcome oasis and special thanks to Max for the warm welcome and 'emergency' sandwich I needed after my workout even though the kitchen was closed. The lounge serves a fantastic breakfast and snacks.

Gym was excellent with a fantastic variety of equipment and apparently even a spin class which I unfortunately missed. Steam, sauna and change facilities were excellent. The pool looked very large but I didn't use it.

Location was great and walking distance to many attractions and a large (soulless) shopping centre attached and a busy shopping street.

Big thanks also the the concierges including Eric and Leo (?) who were of great help for restaurants and also in some service recovery for our late ride to the airport. A fantastic hotel and I hope to return again.

Location is very good - primarily a business person's hotel. It is close to shopping, walking distance to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, so it does have a casual side. We only ate in for breakfast and it was expensive, but lot's of selection. Room was great and the workout facility / pool were outstanding. Highly recommend.

This was our first trip to Beijing and my wife and I stayed here for six nights and had a great experience. The pool and spa area is beautiful and was an oasis in the middle of a busy city. The hotel is in a very good location, within walking distance of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. There is an outdoor market and shopping area a couple of blocks from the hotel and there is a subway station and mall underneath the hotel. The room was very clean and modern, and we highly recommend this hotel.

It's a Hyatt so good quality all around. The pool really is the best part of this hotel both for lap swimming, lounging and kids. There are attendants who provide bar as well as towel service. Good rates for business travelers with breakfast included (assuming your corporation has a relationship w/ Hyatt - otherwise expect it to be pricey). As a western hotel the internet service is routed through Hong Kong so things like Facebook are accessible. One final thing to note - it's often too warm in Chinese buildings, and the Hyatt was no exception.

I stay at a lot of Grand Hyatt's and this one is quite new or newly renovated with nice business rooms. The pool is quite impressive and really is the best part of the hotel. Service is hit and miss and the food in the restaurants was less than average. The internet is brutally slow, even when you pay for the faster service, which makes it incredibly difficult to work.
