“Upmarket-ish - but the pricetag has exceeded the quality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2012

Stayed in mid 2011. Nice rooms, great service, great helpful concierge staff. Cute swimming pool. Expensive bar.

Comparing it to the quality of other hotels in the area that are half the price - it just doesn't earn what its asking in $$$ value.

As an alternative to the over-priced bar and restaurant, trot 20 metres down the road to the entrance to the nearest hutong, where you'll find a couple of tiny local joints selling beer at one tenth the price, little buns and bowls of veges for a few yuans.

After travelling to China for over 5 years and staying at some very good hotels, even where staff don't speak english yet provide exceptional service, this was a dissappointment. This was my first time in Beijing, and i was not there for business. The room was old, very tired, small and noisy, its window opened to the inside of the lobby. Bathroom was adequate, again, nothing special, definitely not worth what i am used to in China (however, this is what you get living in Biejing and a touristy hotel) - i have to say my experience with similar hotels in Shanghai has been remarkably different.
You can walk to some of the attractions, though it is a fair walk, and depending on the weather you may not enjot it.
The hotel resturaunt was hosting some kind of german cusine night, and i thought it might be worth while trying it, however it was not great.
Travel desk staff was fairly helpful.

Excellent staff, very helpful. The hotel arranged a driver for us for the day who took us to 4 tourist attractions, this was approx. 100 UK pounds for 2 and we thought this was good value. The driver was charming and friendly as were all the hotel staff. Hotel comfortable and clean. We had no complaints and enjoyed our stay. Within walking distance to Tiananmen Square

One star for value.
One star for being clean.
Half a star for trying to be a high-end hotel, but does not succeed.

No free internet, the first room, there was no internet at all. Second room charged for use of the desktop computer.

It is not close to attractions. It is six long blocks to the shopping area.

The rooms are getting a little rundown. It needs some re-investment.

Lobby area does not have seating, so if you are going to meet someone, go to the bar area.

Free water is only the blue cap bottles, there should be two, one in the bathroom and one by the bed.

Do not need converters, since they have U.S. style plugs.

If you get a good deal and don't mind the walk, it is a fair place to stay, but would rather be closer to the main wangfujing strip.

Room Tip: Rooms on the interior are quieter.

This hotel lived up to its promises, apart from one thing. We had a 'hot deal' from booking.com, with free internet. Upon arrival the hotel tried to deny this, and asked 98 rmb per day for internet. When I showed the booking confirmation, they claimed we were not allowed to use the desktop in the room for free, but only our own device and plug that in. I had an iPad with me (no plug) so was condemned to checking my email in the hotel lobby, where there was free wifi.
Otherwise, the gym was good, the pool worked (bring your own swimming cap or pay 38 rmb), the breakfast at 60 rmb pp was sufficient, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Centrally located, near metro and forbidden city. The Chinese restaurant opposite the hotel was excellent and not expensive, if you don't ask for a cup of tea at least. They charged us 45 rmb per cup, when I thought it was complimentary.

The location is reasonably good with many sights and the Metro within easy walking distance. The service was good with the exception of the gym and the swimming pool where you are just handed a towel and left alone to do as you please, not too safe in the case of the pool. Breakfast is the usual Chinese mixture of Western and Chinese elements with a wide choice of dishes but the restaurants are overpriced for what is only ordinary food. Rooms are large and well equiped the only fault being that the water in the bathroom was not as hot as we would have liked.
Overall if you can get a deal on the price ( around 700yuan a night is possible) it is worth staying here but if paying the full advertised price you could do better elsewhere
