Beijing International Hotel

The real positive point of my stay in this hotel was the central location. The rest was continuous mass processing without any special hospitality for such a category. Rooms are average standard and not more than functional and clean. Spending almost a week at a conference in the convention centre next door was slightly better. I was repeatedly asking myself why they call such a place "international" when most of the service staff doesn't understand or speak even basic English? And compared to horrendous prices even for basics like coffee or tea the service was in between minimal to unfriendly. Well, the breakfast buffet is huge and substantial but it was difficult to catch a servant's eye for a second coffee. It's not the type of hotel where I would like to come back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the upper floors.

Stayed here as part of a tour organised by Emperor Tours. Facilities were good with a spa and pool. Rooms, hotel, facilities and restaurant really clean. Limited English for general hotel staff but excellent customer service really couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast buffet far exceeded our expectations with an excellent range of international offerings alongside the traditional chinese breakfast. In walking distance of Beijing train station and a mall across the road for some souvenir shopping although a trip to the 'silk market' is a real MUST for people after some good quality bargains. HSBC branch across the road!

Room Tip: we had a room overlooking the quiet courtyard

The hotel is old, brown and tired. The breakfast buffet is OK, but very crowded - like a train station. The rooms were functional but very tired. We couldn't be bothered going to the pool because it was miles away, in a different part of the building next door. We ate at the 'cafe' downstairs with a bizarre view of sad bunnies in a sad garden and the food was ludicrously expensive and yucky. The receptionist when we checked-in was stunningly rude, even by China standards, but seemed quite cheerful to see us leave. It feels like a 2 or 3 star hotel at best. One redeeming feature is the restaurants in the building across the street, through the underpass.

Main positive point about this hotel is the location which is very central.
The hotel is pretty nice but in some places there are weird smells, such as cigarette smell in the elevator and such.
All in all rooms are pretty nice but nothing special

Rooms spacious and clean and location good. Only downfall is to watch all the extra costs for every thing they advertise with the motel. You pay for the time on the badminton courts but once you pay this you then have to pay extra for the equipment. You can not use the pool unless you buy a swimming cap from them at 99 yuan. So good for a quick stay but non much use if staying with a family.

I spent two nights in this hotel late June after missing a flight and being accidentally stranded in Beijing. It is a decent hotel with good service. Despite that its age starts to show here and there, the hotel has a certain charm from the 70s and 80s.

Pros:
- The location is pretty central, 3 subway stops to Tienanmen Square/Forbidden City (you can actually walk to Tienanmen, it takes about 20-25 minutes), plenty of taxis at the entrance, and some major bus lines stop right in front. Also, Beijing's main railway station is just 3 minutes by walk.
- It is easy to get here from the airport via Airport Shuttle Bus no. 3, that drops you off right at the hotel.
- Free, relatively fast wireless internet is available in the rooms.
- Reception staff/Concierge are helpful and friendly.
- Huge, American-style breakfast is served in the morning - a great way to start your day.
-

Cons:
- Bathroom needs some upgrading - the one in my room was clean, but clearly showed its age.
- They give 2 small bottles of water as complimentary (which is nice), but put a few bottles of Evian next to your bed - with a price tag of RMB 60 (which is a ripoff, as even at the airport you can buy bottled water for RMB 3-4). Buy your water elsewhere!

Overall a nice experience - I would not hesitate staying here again.

Room Tip: - Get a southward-looking room at at higher floor to have a great view. - You can buy bottled water...
