I flew people in from around Asia and held a meeting in one of their meeting rooms - the service was wonderful, my attendees loved their stay and the lunch buffet was stunning (if you enjoy seafood, you'll be in heaven!). One of the other stand outs for this location is the huge gorgeous Chinese garden adjacent to the lobby and the main restaurant, complete with huge koi pond and outdoor bar. You can complete a lovely walk around it following the mostly covered path (a good option to get outside since the location outside the hotel isn't great for walking.
The guest rooms are very good (not amazing, getting a little warn), there is a hot water pot, but no coffee or creamer ever put in my room (I did grab some off the maid's cart, so I know it's available!); good hair dryer- but it's built into the desk with an awkward fold up mirror; the beds are really comfortable - the curtains are fairly black out; nice robe, slippers, towels and toiletries.
The location isn't really good for touring the key Beijing sites (although taxis are cheap, metered and plentiful) but for business meetings it's a great option due to the nice meeting rooms, excellent service (they hooked up my Mac to the projector and made sure everything worked for me, always had someone to help, the AC control was in the room and worked, etc). They have a gorgeous Nespresso coffee bar in the hall for coffee breaks (staffed) and nice snack options.
The breakfast buffet is expensive (my room rate included it) but includes every east/west option you can imagine - including omelets to order, fresh juicing station, etc. The lunch buffet is beyond words - Peking duck, EVERY kind of fresh seafood, gelato station, chocolate fondue...great for a special lunch to impress.
I'd definitely book another meeting/event at the Shangri-la when in Beijing.
