From the airport itself, until the end of my stay, the service was outstanding. Only negative impression: I was charged the printing of one single page at the Business Centre at a ridiculous expensive amount, and believe that should be included when staying at such a prestigious and luxurious hotel.

From the time we were met at the airport by the hotel transportation until the end of our stay, the service was outstanding. The staff are both friendly and competent. The rooms are very good and the facilities, particularly the gym, are excellent. The Business centre provided us with well equipped meeting rooms and copying/printing facilities. There are several very good restaurants in the hotel (buffet restaurant serving Chinese and Western food, Chinese restaurant and Japanese restaurant) and an excellent 3 star Michelin restaurant serving Western food within the hotel complex. I would definitely stay there again.

If you do business in the west of Beijing, this hotel is an excellent stay.
The only disadvantage is that you get no taxi in the morning.
The rest is Shangri La perfect.

The people are very friendly in this hotel. It was such a wonderful experience. Nice room and service. Have a nice pool, nice lobby lounge. You could find a big bear in the lobby. A lots of fine for kids. It is difficult to get taxi during the rush hour in the morning. But I think this is a common issue in Beijing!

This property is located quite far from most anywhere you'd like to be going with the possible exception of the local businesses. No pretty views of the modern city - just dirty apartment buildings. There does not seem to be much in the way of restaurants beyond what is at the hotel. The hotel has the old wing ("Garden Wing") and a new wing. I stayed in the Garden Wing, it is an aging property with old style bathrooms, the rooms have been updated a little bit, but not up to what I normally expect from a Shangri-La. Stay at the Kerry Hotel (another Shangri-La property recently renovated and much, much better located.

Food: had several room service and in restaurant meals at the Cafe Cha. With the exception of some nice Indian food, most everything else was pretty poor considering the price. The dinner buffet is overpriced ($50+) and the salmon I had was mushy with no flavour. Ordered the Ruben sandwich and Onion soup for dinner one night in my room. Both arrived lukewarm. Soup was lacking in any flavour and the Ruben was terrible. Outrageously bad food considering the prices. After those experiences, I chose to walk down the street to the KFC. At least I didn't overpay!

If you have to stay here for business, stay in the new wing and leave the property for your meals if possible. If you are here on vacation/holiday - stay closer to the city centre, it will be worth the extra cost if any.

Room Tip: Stay in the new wing!

Issue 1) Room Temp. Have you ever stayed in a hotel room that did not allow you to control the temperature in the room? My room flucuated between the artic and an oven for three days. Hotel staff was very apologetic and came when called. It took three of their Engineers just to adjust the temperature. They came willingly....but who wants to call an engineer every time you want to adjust the rooms temp?

Issue 2) Food - If you must eat at this hotel...breakfast is fine...but don't eat any of the options for western food....they simply don't have a clue...I was served a rueben sandwich that was cold, open faced with a slice of american cheese....just dreadful. I realize that choosing western food in China is always a risk...but if it's on the menu and you are catering to western guests you shoul take time to learn the proper presenation of a sandwich.

On the positive side the health club is well furnished and maintained with a very nice pool.

Beijing has lots of lovely hotels...but this one isnt worth the $$$$

It was such a wonderful experience. Nice room and service. I had my honeymoon here. The hotel even prepared me roses and a heart-shape cake. Can't expect better service like this!Although the location is not very close by the subway, but it is really hard to resist such excellent service. Very sweet and unforgetable staying experience in Shangri-La Beijing. Highly recommanded!
