Very elegant and luxurious hotel. The room are nicely decorated. Not specially large but comfortable enough. Excellent,a magnificent breakfast buffet. A little expensive for what you get, but its a Peninsula.

Beds are fine and provides good support .
Easy access to Quanjude and DaDong restaurants.
Included breakfast so so.Coffee bland.
But for 1288 couldnt ask for better value.

The Peninsula is a wonderful brand of hotels, but as other reviews correctly note, the rooms need a make over and the first place they should start is with the beds. These are platform beds that are hard as a rock and you need to use the pillows to sleep on them. I have also stayed at the Regent across the intersection, which has more comfortable beds and I will stay there or a newer hotel the next time I visit. With that said, the restaurants are very good as is the service. For those of us that are not fluent in Mandarin, this hotel is very good for English speakers and the car/drivers are excellent. However, after 4 sleepless nights, I'm going to look elsewhere.

If service and location are most import to you then this is a great hotel. If you can't get past that the building is a relic of Chinese building standards of the 80's, you will be disappointed. Despite a recent face lift, the physical structure of the building can't compare with the newer 5 star hotels in Beijing. The rooms are well appointed, but are small, don't have a luxury bath and the beds are on the hard side. But it is still a peninsula, so the service is impeccable. The location can't be better either. It is still regarded as the best hotel by the locals, so all the taxi drivers know it by name. This is very helpful in getting back to the hotel.

One of the most enduring luxury hotels in Beijing. First stayped here late 90s with my family, and since then have stayed many times on business, although never made it back with the family.

Great rooms, location, restaurants, bars, gym & pool. In fact the only thing I could possibly fault this hotel on (and regretably its a pretty major fault) are the beds. They are absolutely rock hard. No give at all, and unless you sleep on a futon at home, there's no way you will get a good night's rest here.

Would have thought its a simple problem to fix, but meanwhile you can vote with your feet and stay at the Grand Hyatt or the Regency just opposite - cheaper and really comfy beds.

After arriving in winter storms, my friend and I decided we were princesses and the Peninsula was our palace. There were lovely comfortable rooms, flat-screen TV, and courteous and professional staff. The bathroom had all the expected goodies, including a hair elastic as part of the shower cap set (anyone with long hair who uses a shower cap will appreciate this).

The breakfast buffet was one of the highlights: western style bakery (pastries, pancakes, and waffles), western hot breakfast (eggs, bacon, potatoes), Asian hot breakfast (noodles, soup, etc), and salad and fruit. We checked out the fitness centre and pool (although didn't use them) - there were plenty of machines in the gym and the pool is apparently heated to 30 degrees.

The location was really good. In summer you could take a (long) walk to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square but in winter it is taxi everywhere. There's a subway station a few minutes away for avoiding the traffic on the way to outlying attractions like the Birds Nest.

The only area for improvement is some of the other hotels have a bar: the Hilton has Flames and the Park Hyatt has the China Bar, both of which were really great bars in their own right (whether in a hotel building or not). At the Peninsula, there's only the lobby bar (which is a little impersonal) and the club (which is members only). It would be good to have an option for having some drinks without having to venture into the cold (or heat).

Overall, we loved the hotel and would definitely stay again.
