Stayed here for two nights before joining a cruise. Fantastic Hotel with excellent restaurants. Beautiful reception area with a great shopping arcade. Within easy walking distance of the Forbidden City and Many other places if interest. Hotel were great in organising a private tour to the Great Wall of China which was the highlight of our trip to Bejing

We stayed at the Peninsula Beijing last week and whilst the hotel was adequate we arrived straight from the Peninsula in Shanghai and compared with Shanghai this Peninsula is a tired old lady in need of a makeover.

The lobby was vast with designer boutiques all round the edge and a magnificent white marble staircase and giant horse on each side of the bottom step. Near this part of the lobby was an eating area and alongside was a piano which someone played each afternoon and early evening accompanied by other musicians with assorted instruments. We had drinks at the bar one day and lunch a couple of days. The snack menu offered a limited choice but it was a good standard and together with a glass of wine each cost about £75. The main restaurant provided breakfast and dinner, it was on the lower ground level and difficult to find when exiting the lift - at first glance it was just like another shopping mall and I thought the whole hotel felt like a shopping mall with rooms but although the names of the shops were famous designers the prices were double that of the UK and Europe due to the high import duty.

Our bedroom 748 was a reasonable size with a gold and maroon colour scheme, a day bed and desk with free wifi, mini-bar, TV, and video. The air-conditioning worked well without being too loud. The bathroom had a separate walk-in shower but the grouting was discoloured and there was only one sink although the bath towels were good quality and plentiful. The king sized bed also had good quality crisp sheets and the mattress was firm and very comfortable.

The Peninsula is quite simply exellent, just as good as any luxury hotel in the estern world. Rooms are a bit small, but elegant and comfortable. They have a super, externsive breakfast buffet, and the same restaurant serves an excellent lunch. Location is perfect - there is extensive luxury shopping nearby, combined with a fascinating "street market" featuring some of the most exotic foods you've ever seen! Don't stay here for an "authentic" Chinese experience - stay for great rooms and food, an oasis on your journey.

Located in the Wangfujing area very convenient. Lots of high-end shopping in the hotel and area. All the high-end names, LV, Harry Winston, etc are in the hotel, just outside is Cartier, and literally dozens of others.
When you arrive, there is a nice feeling of stately welcome. Seems that this is the place for Westerners to stay as I see more per capita than at other hotels.
The property is nice. I might go so far as to say a little "tired" if compared to the Regent a half block away. If you prefer the more mature, sophisticated feel of a hotel, the Peninsula is for you, if you prefer a more modern, up to date stay you may want the Regent. In my opinion one would be happy at either.
So many great hotels and so little time and money, if given the chance to stay at the Peninsula I would take it.

Room Tip: Even rooms face the front of the hotel. Does prove a little noisy from the street In front. However...

Despite very nice location, the hotel is old, poorly maintained and not correctly organized. Concierge service is good but despite its the oldest hotel chain in Asia, their English is terrible. Not acceptable for the price. For same budget, recommend the new Marriot and is closer to the Imperial Palace.

Stayed here recently on my 12 night China luxury trip, read further comments on Sofitel in XIAN and Howard Johnson Plaza in SHANGHAI
were booked into one of the best hotel-allegedly in Beijing
The check in and reception staff were good and helpful as my flight arried early morning and gave us a bed before the check in time.
Stayed on the 7-th floor in a deluxe twin room on the side of the building-not much view and the room is rather small comparing to other Peninsula hotels I stayed at .
Well I suppose if you want a bigger one go for a suit
The buffet breakfast was also pretty mediocre comparing to Peninsulas elsewhere but I guess this is China so whatever you get is whatever you get.
Had room service once that was pretty good and decent.
Would only recommend if you have no better option.

Very good location close to Forbidden City, Tianamen Square and shops.
Room was clean, comfortable beds with turn down service each night and fantastically large towels. A minor point, the shower was in the bath.
Really liked the outdoor temperature and humidity indicators in the room which helped when choosing the correct clothes for outside.
Food in the Jing Restaurant was superb particularly the buffet which included a whole lobster and scallops.
Staff very attentive and well trained. Would definitely stay there again.
