Checked in to the Great Wall Sheraton Hotel on a Monday evening for one night's stay. Staff were uniformly friendly and pleasant. No problems at check-in. Stayed in a non-smoking King room on the 15th floor.

Nice lobby, public areas in good condition. Room was nice and clean. Fairly spacious. Carpet could use a refresh or good cleaning.

Free wifi, but poor coverage in room, have to pay for broadband ethernet - moderately expensive.

Took about 45 minutes to drive in from the airport shortly after 6pm.

Location reasonable, short taxi ride to lots of nice restaurants. Hard Rock Cafe is right next door for those who like that.

Stayed on a business trip for 2 days. The following is my experience:

Check in:
Took 20 minutes!!! The person at the reception was friendly. I had reserved a non-smoking room, and since these were not ready, I had to checkin to a smoking room instead. Terrible experience. One of my colleagues who also came from Europe with me did get her room either. So if you arrive early then be prepared not to have a room until 2.00pm

Room:
Comfortable bed, decent furniture. Very tried looking bathroom. Good water pressure in in the shower. No Wi-fi. You have to use ethernet cable. The carpets were very black and worn out.

Location: nothing great to write about. It is near to some popular malls

NOTE: It takes 20 to 30 minutes to get a taxi in the mornings!!!!!

Summary: A barely adequate hotel.

THis hotel was obviously one of the first 'foreign' hotels and in its time was probably 'great' - now it is a 10-15minutes taxi ride to get anywhere half way decent for eating or shopping and even further from most business needs; there are so many better value hotels on offer - even teh Raffles would have been cheaper and significantly better located (Forbidden city and T-Square)...altogther a perfectly clean and reasonable hotel - until you know what else is around the corner...

Room Tip: non smoking !

I stayed there for only 2 nights and that's enough. The hotel was old and it's definitely not a five star hotel. I didn't even get an upgrade with my platinum membership. Stay here only if you get a very very good rate. Otherwise, if you are a big starwood fan like myself, pay a little bit more to stay the Westin Chaoyang which is nearby--it is 100 times better !!!

Stayed at this hotel on 10/21-25, 2011. We had a very nice stay. Hotel is very clean and staff very courteous. Being an American brand hotel, the staff could speak and understand english a little better. I guess I could speak a little better Chinese, too. We did have a lighting problem and the staff didn't completely understand what we were trying to say and just left with a smile. This was a little frustrating.
Burger dinner we had was very good and cost a lot less than Hard Rock.

There seem to be a lot of positive reviews for this hotel but I must say my experience wasn't so great.

It is indeed looking like an old movie star trying to relive better days - the overall aesthetic is in need of a fresh appearance. I have no problem with older hotels and their small rooms but to charge the same rate as better hotels in the area is a bit much - this is not a 5 star Sheraton property, more like 4 stars.

The breakfast was plentiful though rather ordinary. I didn't try room service.

The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom, albeit very small, had hot water and decent toiletries although I would have like the shaving kit included.

The televisions are about 9 years old and these small issues really grate me. For the sake of $200 you could get a flat screen LCD TV for the rooms and give them a de facto face lift. As it is, it just adds to the dated feel of the room. It also made for a very poor picture.

You have to pay for internet access, which is fine, but there was no wireless access in the rooms which is not fine for a business focussed hotel.

As a Gold Member some fan fare was made of upgrading me to the Executive Floor which was nice untilt he guy next to me who wasn't even a regulat Starwood member got the same benefit :)
Further, because I had been "upgraded" the refused me entry to the Club Lounge.....which kind of made the "upgrade" redundant.

All in all, it was adequate for a couple of nights. There are many far better options for the same price range and it will those options that I stay in next time.

Room Tip: If you ahve to stay here, don't choose an average room. Spend the money and get the top floors.
