The only time I honestly think I will get to lay on a harder surface will be when I'm in the morgue.
The mattresses are absolutely solid.
That said, it's a fair city centre hotel. Within walking distance of Tianemen Square.
It's a huge place. Split over two towers. My room in Tower B was smoke free, and very clean.
There's a good choice of restaurants, although I only had the plentiful breakfast in the ground floor restaurant near to reception.
Would I look forward to staying here again?????
Only if I knew that the mattress had a bit more give in it.

This is actually our second stay at this hotel, and both times we have been pleasantly surprised by the facilities, the helpfulness of the staff, and the comfort (and size) of the rooms. The location is very convenient for getting to all of the major attractions, and there are enough stores in the area to pick up the goodies you need to keep you going. For those that just can't do without, there is a Starbucks about a 10 minute walk away, as well as a few decent "local" restaurants if you are adventurous enough. If not, McDonald's is only a stone's throw away as well. All in all, you just can't go wrong with this hotel - the facilities far exceed the price.

Room Tip: If you like a soft mattress, request the additional padding - they are happy to put it on for you at...

Despite a great location for sightseeing, the Capital Hotel is firmly past its prime and not deserving of a five-star billing barring some major refreshing.

Hands down the worst mattress of any hotel stay in recent memory - rock hard with busted springs. My travel companion and I were only able to sleep though the night by pushing two twin beds together in order to use one comforter as a mattress topper, and a poor one at that.

In a decidedly pedestrian unfriendly part of town, the on site dining options are dismal. You're stuck with a full buffet breakfast or nothing. No coffee shop, no small shop with light dining options.

Staff were nonplussed when several residents on our "non-smoking floor" were smoking with doors open. Concierge spoke minimal English and refused to print directions to one of our dinner locations.

Resign yourself to a very below average facility, or seek other options.

The service and cleanliness at the Capital Hotel will not disappoint. Guests have the option of the elaborate breakfast buffet every morning or can upgrade to the Capital Club amenities. Rooms are clean and serviced several times a day. Currency exchange, numerous restaurants and many shops on the second level including furniture, liquor, taylor and other sundries and conveniences. Centrally located near Forbidden City and T Square. Recommend!

I traveled to China with my class, it was about thirty of us all staying at this hotel. Beijing was our first stop on our itinerary. So this hotel was nice. The room was nice and clean. The bed itself was a little on the hard side, but from what I am told, Chinese like their beds a little firmer then Americans. Overall I was able to sleep comfortably. You do not need power converters here and can plug in directly to the outlet. Tub was awesome and shower had awesome water pressure. I had a problem in my room (totally my fault and not hotel related) and the maintenance staff was prompt to fix it. I thought that the breakfast buffet offered a lot of selection. It changed everyday. It had a mixture of Chinese and Western foods. Also, they had cereal and an omelet bar. I tried to exchange currency at the front desk to avoid paying the fee at the machine and I was told that I had to use the machine. However, when a fellow classmate went to the front desk to change his money, they promptly did it for him without referring him to the currency exchange machine. So that was a little upsetting. On the second floor their is a nice gift shop. I didn't go to the gym or pool, but my husband did and he said that he liked them and that they were adequate enough while on vacation. The bar on the first floor was decent and affordable. I was comparing the prices to what I normally would pay for drinks in the United States. The hotel is ideally situated. You could walk to Tiannemen Square and the Forbidden City within fifteen minutes. Also, if you're into othe whole weird foods, this hotel is also a fifteen minute walk to a shopping area with all the weird stuff on a stick (scorpions, tarantulas, sea horses, lizards, grubs). It was overall a very pleasant experience. They have HBO in English and BBC. So I was able to watch something. But the Chinese soap operas were fun to watch too. Overall, I was satisfied with the stay at this hotel. If I came back to Beijing, I would chose to stay here again.

Stayed at the Capital Hotel Beijing in May for 3 days. Walking distance to the Forbidden City. Hotel was good with an indoor swimming pool. Mainly for Asian travellers. Had trouble trying to communicate with front desk. Room was good except the bed was rock hard. This was booked through a travel company that provided me with a driver and guide for three days. Would not be my first choice for a traveller from North America except for the location.

Room Tip: There are two towers. Try to get a view of the forbidden city.

We booked one queen bed (about 2 months in advance and confirmed), upon arrival only twin beds available. No one smiles, no welcomes. Staff seem very depressed and annoyed that they actually have to work and serve you, unless you are in the gift shop.
Our room was excellent with mini bar, large tub, TV with a handful of English channels, WIFI, etc. Due to a lot of tours and conventions all the hotel restaurants were closed for lunch and dinner. Front desk didn't have any suggestions so we had to fend for ourselves. On the last night we tried the only open restaurant, the Italian restaurant on the top floor, yes views were good, but we were both sick after eating a pizza. It did not taste great. We should no better not to eat pizza with cheese? in China. Included breakfast had a large selection of mostly Asian dishes. What we recognized was not very good but adequate.
