This is a great option if you want to do a lot in a short time or are concerned about the language issue. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are both are in easy walking distance, as is the main shopping street. The map from the concierge was simple to operate and thus everything was easy to find. We paid £45 each way for a hotel car (Audi A6) to deliver us to and from the airport, but once in the city taxis were very cheap and easy to use. The night food market is minutes away, safe and easy to walk to. The room was good and well laid out, although we did get an upgrade to a suite in the annex. However, it was the staff that made the stay exceptional. They were simply superb on all counts. I travel a lot and this is the first time I have been moved to write a review.

If you have ever stay Novotel in some country, you may expect Beijing Novotel will give you modern style. Actually, Novotel beijing feel you stay in old hotel, but high standard of novotel can give you statisfy and love it.

The room is very quite big, compare to other novotel design, and if you cannot speak chinese, you will feel very happy to communicate with hotel staff. They can help you very much.

The location is very nich, you can walk to wang-fujing street, forbidden palace, tien -anmen and near subway station.

I stayed here twice with a week between visits the first time in the standard rooms in teh old wing and the second time in an executive room in the newer tower. Overall the hotel was fine though the first room was showing its age. Not grotty so much as well worn, clearly they had/have a problem with the shower stall (no bath) overflowing at times as the carpet by the door to the bathroom was discoloured and a different texture to the rest of the carpet (possibly the underlay had disintergrated?) and the wooden door frames were rotting. Plus you had to walk around about and up stairs into a second wing to get there. Apart from that everything was standard.

The newer rooms, as is generally the case (especially in CHina), were lovely, and obviously more expensive. The upstairs lounge was also nice though they didn't tell me about it at check-in.

The Location is OK, especially if you are a tourist though with Beijing's awful traffic if you need to be spending a lot of time in meetings in a particular location, only choose this hotel if it is next door. One evening at around 6:30 it took me an hour and a half to get from the hotel to China World (guomao).

The internet can be a bit patchy but once up and running works quite quickly and the breakfast is good. There is a breakfast steak stand/bar, which is a first for me.
