Novotel Beijing Peace
Ranked #62 of 6,565 Hotels in Beijing
Reviewed September 22, 2011

We recently visited Beijing and stayed twice at the Novotel Peace - the first time with my husband and 14yr old daughter for 4 nights. I decided to spend a bit more and get a room on the premier floor which we were really pleased with. Even with the rollaway bed, it was still a good sized room. Breakfast was included, which we could eat in the premier lounge on the 19th floor or in the restaurant on the lobby floor - we chose the restaurant simply because there was more variety. Breakfast was fine - lots to pick from but wouldn't say it is the best breakfast we have come across, but adequate by all means. Because we stayed on the premier floor, we could have happy hour in the premier lounge each night from 6-8pm. This was really good, with lots of nice nibbles, desserts, and drinks of your choice. For us it was a great time to sit down, relax, have a cold beer or wine, and talk about our adventures during the day! The staff up there were all really nice. We also did our check-in/check-out up there which seemed to save time from doing it down in the lobby which was often busy. So we really enjoyed the benefits of the premier lounge and thought it was worth the wee bit extra. And on a clear day (not very often!!), the view from up there was amazing. We never realised how close Forbidden City was until the smog cleared!
We went away for 4 days and the next time our 18 year old son joined us so we booked 2 premier rooms (the 2nd one was discounted 50%) - so our experience was the same as the first visit and the 2 rooms worked really well. We stayed 3 nights the next time, and having the extra room was good.
Both visits our rooms were nice and clean. The bed was hard, but this seems to be the norm in China. The kids liked that the rooms has Ipod docks so they could enjoy their music in their room.
Location was good with lots of shops etc around, but you still have to grab a taxi to go anywhere as the place is so huge. Taxi rides were cheap, you just had to close your eyes sometimes and be glad that you were not the one in the drivers seat!!!
Overall, it was a good hotel and I was happy with the prices we paid. It was clean which is one of the most important things for us. There was no guest laundry though, so maybe I would look at an apartment complex next time but we would definitely recommend the Novotel Peace Beijing.

Room Tip: Go for the premier floor - worth the bit extra

My family and I (2A+2C) stayed at this hotel during our visit to Beijing. The reason I chose this hotel was that I found it very hard to get a hotel in China that would accomodate all of us in one room. Most of them had a max 3 people in a room capacity. I then read a review by zux123 who had stayed there and contacted the GM myself on the recommendation of him. The GM (Mr Daniel Chao) couldn't have been more helpful. We were given a very comfortable room which was clean and really well appointed. The breakfast was good but only thing was that we had the same thing almost every day. A little variety would be good! The location of the hotel is fantastic with shops, supermarkets and the subway station closeby. All in all we had a great time in Beijing and Novotel Peace is a great place to stay.

we enjoyed a fine meal at the western dining room with wonderful service upon our first trip to Beijing. Cabernet was a wonderful experience. hence upon our return we felt it was worthy to try the hotel based upon the standards we enjoyed.
A very good choice, friendly staff, pleasant room,Breakfast, I my career, and throughout my extensive travels, this was the best buffet breakfast i had enjoyed in such a large scale environment. incredible array, good quality, smiling staff (always an important element to me personally) international papers, fresh coffee and free wi-fi. good location in terms of site seeing and shopping , not far to the public transport and taxis easy to hail. we stayed in early December, which is extremely cold, rooms where warm and clean, hotel decorated tastefully for the christmas season. very pleasant experience, once again Cabernet was exceptional. good service great food. My request to arrange a small cake for my wifes birthday was done with Aplomb, we enjoyed the entire stay.

Room Tip: location against price for a night was a good combination., if your shopping or site seeing this is...

This is a typical chain hotel so if you are in Beijing for a holiday don't waste your money staying here unless you only have a couple of days. The location to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City is excellent but that is about it. We picked this hotel for our first two nights as we have never been to beijing and thought that they might cater for western tourists better.

Be brave and go and stay in one of the hutongs so you can get much closer to the real Beijing, chain hotels just don't give you that.

My husband and I stayed with our daughter at the novotel peace in Beijing for 8 nights, it was in a good location with many restaurants close by, within walking distance of shops and the forbidden city, close to subway stations which were the perfect way to get about. Beds very comfortable, rooms clean and well appointed.

I was on a (small) group tour, and spent three nights at the Novotel. The location is very central. The hotel has a large, pleasant lobby, and perhaps the quietest elevators I have ever encountered. The room was perfectly acceptable, but with some minor signs of wear. All the normal bath accessories, but thin towels that would have been more appropriate to a budget hotel. The breakfast buffet is fine, but the choices are not as extensive as you might expect at an upscale property. Overall, the words I keep coming back to are "adequate" and "acceptable," but not "luxury." I'll err on the side of generosity by giving the hotel 4 dots (or whatever you call them), but it's really a 3 1/2-dot property.
