Novotel Xinqiao Beijing
Ranked #69 of 6,606 Hotels in Beijing
Reviewed March 18, 2013

I stayed their this past Feb and March but my best experience was last year when my son and his girlfriend were their. The air in Beijing was very bad and my son was having breathing problem in the middle of the night and of course he ran out of his inhaler so one of the employees went and found a drugstore that was open and broth the inhaler to him. I found the staff is very friendly, and there are several of the staff that speck good English so they were extremely helpful with directions, phone numbers and how to get to places one wanted to visit. When we left my son forgot his medication and his very expensive sun glasses he sent them an e-mail and sure enough when I showed up this year there it was just like my son left it. They gave it to me and were very nice about everything I think that is how hotel staff should be. Domenico Zurak

Room Tip: I found most of the rooms were very nice where we stayed. and the average cost was anywhere from $85...

Very conveniently located big hotel, not too far from Tienamen or the shopping walking street (Wanfujing) or the Beijing railway station and very close to the station of the underground connecting to the main points of interest in Beijing. Staff always very helpful. The rooms are ok and clean, but most of the bathroom equipments and fittings may need some renovation. The water supplied in the bathrooms come from a thermal well situated under the hotel. The rooms on the side facing the nearby hospital are very quiet. Excellent plentyful breakfast buffet with much choice. In the peak hours it may take a fairly long waiting time before one can get a taxi because most taxis avoid the entrance road.

Rooms are spacious and clean; comfy bed, nice bathroom, mini bar fridge. The buffet is also very good with everything you could want. Walking distance to Tianamen square and the forbidden city if you like walking or the subway is literally on the doorstep! Overall a pretty good hotel!
However, there were just a few small things that could really take it up a level and would have made our stay much more pleasant. The rooms are stifling hot (i am the most cold blooded person and i was hot) as the air conditioner is turned "off" in winter??? We had to actually change to a room with an outdoor facing window that we could open. Although only 20 yuan, they made us pay extra to do this which we found quite stingy!
The Chinese restaurant served us two meals, 15 minutes apart and the second was cold when it came? We, had it re-heated and still cold? We complained and they said they would reheat it again?!! This is not hygenic and not of 4 star standard! They tried to make us stilll pay for the meals and it was only after sitting there for 20 minutes they said we could just pay for our drinks, which came to $15 for three soda waters (they actually made us pay $1 fpr lemon)!
No doorman to carry luggage either.
Its the little things you remember and i think it was lacking a 4 star standard but overall pretty good.

We arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon.Check in was quick but they didn't use the printed confirmation form

Continue to the elevator to room B335. ???/??? This was a non smoking, King bed room. For me it was satisfactory. None of the staff I encountered spoke excellent English. Some decent... some not so much. All were eager to help. The Novotel looked.... dated, tired in the dining area's. The Lobby was great. I saw peeling paint in the dining area away from the food. Housekeeping was out of sight and very good.
I had a good view of the hospital and a typical City street with a local restaurant. Outside of the front door there were uniformed men to flag you a taxi and the #2 Subway was just a few feet away. Caveat; The subway is a looooooong way down!!!! of course it is also a loooooong way back up to street level but it is inexpensive and quick.

This Hotel is close by Tianemin Square, and other must see attractions. There is a help desk to aid you in securing tickets to attractions. and Beijing has MANY attractions.

My only reason in traveling to Beijing was to see a Lady. I saw her. We had a very good 7 days together. Novotel Xin Qiao suited my needs very well. Lots of everything close by. Pizza Hut KFC etc all a coupla blocks walk away. Shopping was close by. You can exchange money into RMB at the Hotel or at many places on the street.
I found the Hotel food was tasty, and expensive. It was not always available as it should have been but the staff hurried to make it right.
In Summary
I will return to Beijing and I will return to the Novotel XinQuio

This hotel was recommended by a friend and I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Beijing.

The hotel is in a great location – approximately 20 minutes walk to Tiananmen Square. Furthermore, there is a Subway station right outside the hotel which makes it easy to get around the city (the Subway is very easy to use and all the signs are written in both Mandarin and English). A taxi to ‘The Village’ area where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants only takes about 10-15 minutes.

The staff in the hotel were all very friendly and happy to help when required. They were happy to write down various locations in Chinese characters which we could show to the taxi drivers, and they arranged for a driver to take us to the Great Wall for the day.

The room was of a good size and was clean. Housekeeping tidied the room each day and refilled it with complimentary water bottles. There was a flat screen TV in the room with a range of local and international channels, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean and looked relatively new too.

Breakfast was included each morning, and came in the form of a buffet. There was a large variety of food, with both Asian and Western dishes served. The food was average at best. If I have one suggestion for improvement at the hotel it would be to improve the quality of the food. Although it must be noted the food wasn’t so bad we didn’t eat it – it was adequate and at least gave us something to eat before the big day of sightseeing ahead of us.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you visit Beijing. The location is the hotel’s best asset, plus the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff were very helpful.

Except for good location, i think this hotel is average. Long time ago, i had a very good impression for novotel but i think the standard now is lower a bit.
The location is very good, i must say. just few steps away from the Chongwenmen Station. Near to Tian'anmen square (few blocks away).
The room, bathroom were not as what i expected. just OK for a stay.
The staff were just ok.. but i found one staff was quite rude. i didn't like it.
i have made my comments in the novotel's survey.

Just spend six nights at this Hotel, my stay here was primarily as a tourist.
The check-in was fast, efficient and friendly. The rooms on the business floor were large, clean
And it had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. It was cold in Beijing and it was nice
to get back to a warm, comfortable room. The executive/business lounge provided the usual free
drinks and food but it was all a little basic. Found the breakfast to be much better with a good choice of food. The hotel is well located right next to a Metro station that will take you anywhere
In this very, very large city, its a fast and cheap way to explore the majority of the tourist sights, the
Summer Palace, Forbidden city etc, are all within easy reach. There are plenty of taxis outside the hotel but communicating the destination with the driver takes a little effort, best to get someone from the hotel to write directions in Chinese. The staff at the front desk was very helpful at all times. Would not hesitate to stay here again, a good hotel at a very good price.
PS The air pollution in Beijing is major issue, would recommend breathing mask if you are the sensitive type.
