Only lived on the premium floor. It makes check-in easier, gives you 2 meals and 1 piece of laundry every day. Friendly and professional staff on premier lounge which also speaks English. Quiet, short distance to subway (which also is convenient from and to the airport, unless too much luggage if travel in rush-hour. Short distance to interesting tourist spots and shops/restaurants very nearby (including 10 min walk to more "Westernized" shopping-centers at Wangfujing). I would consider this as a safe bet compared to many other hotels world-wide that often "surprise" you one way or the other. I have stayed here for a total of 6-7 weeks the last year and would choose the same hotel next time because of the comfortable and convenient stay.

We were in Beijing for several days while in China. The Novotel was a great value with nice rooms, several good restaraunts, and friendly helpful staff. It is located close to Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. Utilize the subway as much as possible as you can access almost anywhere with it avoiding the never ending traffic gridlock. Subway costs about 20 cents.

Hotel Lobby- Pros: ATM, Post Office, Tour Desk, Currency Exchange Desk, Gift Shop, Free use of Apple iMacs and WiFi.
Cons: No Public lounge or area to sit and escape your room but still stay indoors.

Hotel Room- Pros: Free Internet, Room Service is cheaper then Restaurant prices which was strange, TV has 1 Movie channel(HBO), 1mixed US TV shows (AXN) and two sport channels all in english. two free bottles of water each day, large, heated/cooling, large windows.
Cons: sligh used and dated, beds are hard but not extream, shower/bath in-one

Area- Pros: walking distance to KFC/Pizza Hut, Several Malls are within walking distance, train station (with X-ray machine) located right outside hotel. 7/11 style show located 10 shows to the right of the hotel, the the left is a bakery which offers many pastry options, close to many attactions...

Hints: Taxis are really cheap the min you hop in its 10 then it is 2.00 per km traveled, Room service is cheaper then the avalible resturants, for typical tourst gifts are best found at a place called The Silk Market which is a 5 level market where you MUST barter the price down... start at a min of half what they first say... and dont be afraid to walk away... they will not let you leave without a sale honestly its crazy... they might be rude to you for sticking to a cheap price but if they need the sale they will do it... e.g Cashmere scarf for 45 (7AUD)...

if you go on tours you will vist "tea ceremonies" which are tea shops that will want you to first try the teas but then want you to buy them... same with the pearl markets... Silk Factory... and closonne... we did severl tours and would vist these same places each time which was more time fillers then anything... dont be worried about saying No but if your shy and dont want to say No best to say "I dont drink tea" or"Ive already done this and bought the stuff on the last tour"

Prices are alright but as i said you need to bargin the price down in order to ket a cheap price... the post cards at the lobby gift shop was 80 for a packet yet at the silk market we got two for 80 ( I am sure we could have done better but we were soooo over it)...

I stayed at the Novotel Xinqiao in February 2013, at the height of pre-Chinese New Year, during "tarvel home week". The property has an amazing location if you like walking or taking the subway to get around. The Beijing subway station is lterally accross the driveway to the hotel. If you are coming from the airport, take the express train and get off at the subway (last stop) then take Line 2 to Chonwenmen station, exit D. The subway costs a measly .30 cents to go anywhere on the system, it is spotless, safe and efficient. All the ticket machines in the subway have an 'English' button, so they are really easy to use. The station at the hotel does not have escalators, so keep that in mind when carrying luggage. Most of the other stations have escalators.
Now about the hotel:
Get a breakfast included rate as the breakfast buffet is probably the most elaborate breakfast you will see anywhere. There are probably 75+ items with made-to-order omelets, fresh fruit, a salad bar, fresh fried eggs, all kinds of breakfast meats and Chinese Dim Sum. Not your average "Holiday Inn" brekkie where boiled eggs are considered a luxury! Fresh squeezed juices and hot beverages included.
The upgraded rooms are really very nice with modern furniture and comfortable beds. The washrooms are well appointed with plenty of free toileteries including 1 condom each day....interesting.
There is free wireless internet in the rooms, but a cable is available in case you prefer to hard wire your connection. Unfortunately internet connectivity in China is poor as the "government filters" tend to slow things down quite a bit. A reminder, Facebook and Twitter are not allowed in China.
The lobby bar is really quiet despiet the "Happy Hours" held from 6-8 p.m. each evening where drinks ar BOGO free.
Just accross the street there is a large shopping area with plenty of outdoor vendors and hawkers. Be careful crossing the street! Nobody cares if you have a walk signal!!! Use the subway tunnels (free) to cross the street, they are safe and clean.
Food: Street food is enticing but hygiene is an issue. I would not eat anything off a street vendor unless I was certain that it was well cooked and clean.
I also took an overnight train to X'ian (Terra cotta warriors) where the Muslim quarter has amazing clean street food. I did indulge in quite a few snacks there.
In case you are taking a train, make sure you check which station it is leaving from. Give yourslef plenty of time as these stations are always very crowded.
e-mail me with any questions you may have.

The location of the hotel is great. We can walk to the Pearl Market and the subway to the Silk Market. The hotel itself is ideal, the people are great but the bathrooms in the Executive Floor should be redone. My preference is to stay on the 3rd floor B wing as it is easy to walk down to the lobby and the showers are better than the Executive floor. I usually take an odd number room as it over looks the street. Again, convenience. We have been going to Beijing since 2003 and have stayed only at the Novotel Xin Qiao approximately 45 times albeit 2 nights at at time and a couple of times a week or more. So please keep up the good work and thank you for your consideration with rates. I have not stayed anywhere else in Beijing. Regards Gary Dawson Air Canada Calgary Ab. A/Club 3081031 02375507 8
