“Happy with my choice”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

First time to Beijing and the Novotel Xin Qiao was chosen due to it's location and room rates and after reading several reviews. Stayed for 7 nights.
-Location was very good, as it is next to a subway station and close to the main attractions (eg. 2 stations away from the temple of heaven and the perl market). Had no problem to find the hotel from the airport, most taxi drivers we used knew the hotel (not as novotel but as Xin Qiao hotel). Better carry a hotel card with you so you can show it to the taxi driver.
- The rooms are OK. Average size but functional. They were cleaned everyday, absolutely no complain for that. However , I could not stay in a windowless room and I was really surprised when I realized that the economy room has no window. We choose a superior room but I am not really sure if we were given one since it's size was not superior. But it was no big deal for us since we mostly cared having a smoking room, which we had been given. Mattress was hard, but it was not unpleasant for me even thought I am used to softer ones. The only real complaint about the room was that lighting was not sufficient even if all lights were turned on.
- Very helpful staff, English speaking, very kind (as most of the people that we met in Beijing), doing their best to serve the guests.
- Pleased with the Utopia restaurant (4th floor). Nice selections and very very kind staff.
- Pleased also with the hotel facilities. The Free wifi, although very slow, it is a plus. Since I wad relying on an iPhone wifi was than critical to me.
- I would recommend the hotel both for the business traveler and the tourist in Beijing. I would stay there again.
- I would suggest that the room lighting was improved.

Good solid mid-level hotel located adjacent to Chongwonmen subway station so excellent base to explore Beijing. 15 minutes walk from Forbidden City. Be sure to get good American breakfast with room as the Chinese breakfast is not as good and individual pricing is high. Rooms are a bit dated and dark and our carpet was stained, but bed and bath are great. Not a lot of food choices in immediate area. Staff is just ok and English understanding often limited. Also, please note that the parent company Accor does not beat competitive rates by 10% as they advertise. And you will find much better rates on any hotel booking site.

things did not get off on a good note when they could not trace our reservations in spite of the issuance of an online confirmation with a reference number for a room on the executive floor. they asked us to wait in the lounge while they took no less than 45 minutes to "track" down our booking. no apologies were offered and no explanations given. neither were we offered any help with out bags. the oldish room was acceptable - couldn't see any enhancements in spite of the "executive floor" status. bed was comfortable enough but the bathroom was tiny. toiletries were generic and unimpressive. the ceiling height is very low throughout the floor which made it rather claustrophobic. breakfast on the executive was pretty mediocre so we decided to eat downstairs in the common breakfast cafe - variety could have been better though. the hotel location about a 15 minute walk south of wangfujing is probably its only plus point together with the chongwenmen subway station being right in front of the hotel. there are definitely better hotels in this price range with better location and better service than this.

The Novotel Xinqiao is a hotel designed for the Western tourist in China. It has all the necessary facilities and comfortable rooms but you cannot shake the feeling that you are in Birmingham or Kansas City or Sydney rather than in the heart of Beijing. Rooms are typical Accor standard, wifi has decent signals but marginally on the slow side and staff are friendly with excellent English skills. Breakfast spread is decent but very Western oriented as well. Taxi queues at the hotel can take a while in the morning so be prepared for a 20 minute wait.

We stayed here for one night after a train journey from Pyongyand to Beijing. It was simply a hotel to stay in before we flew home the next day, but after 2 weeks in DPRK we wanted some comfort.
The hotel provided that. We had a twin room with big comfy beds, and a clean tidy bathroom. Breakfast was really good and set us up for the journey home.
Its located quite close to the tourist areas (right outside the Chongwenmen subway) so is probably ideally suited for teh Forbidden City etc.
However it is a normal western style hotel and once inside you can easily forget that you are in China. In that respect it is a bit souless.

This is the second time I stayed at this hotel. While the hotel is very good, they have only a very bad WiFi, which is almost not usable. It is not the signal strength, it is just that there internet connection is overloaded. It works for 20 seconds and then stops for 10 seconds and so one. I tried to get somebody from IT/tech support, but it was not possible, as nobody understood what I was telling them. This seems rather marginal, but I really need the WiFi to work and as it is clearly advertised from the hotel I expect it to work.

Room Tip: The executive floor is not much more expensive, but you get free snacks and drinks in the executive...
