“Beijing; essential to a tour of China”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

We traveled to China with seven other couples and began our tour in Beijing. All arrangements were made by China Odyssey Tours who provided an exceptional experience not only in Beijing but in Xi'an, Guilin and Shanghai . Our Beijing guide (Leo)was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable, taking the time to get to know each of the sixteen members of our group. Our visit to the Great Wall was tremendous and we enjoyed the time spent in Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the hutangs. We had a wonderful trip and will always have fond memories of the time we spent in China.Thank you to Reinself at China Odyssey and our guides Leo (Beijing), Leo (Xi'an), Carly (Guilin) and Michael (Shanghai) for your professional services and your warm hospitality.

“Private tour with China Odyssey in November 2013”
Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

There was a group of 5 ladies in our group and we had a private bus and guide in each city, with a worry free day every day. After touring North Asia for 2 weeks prior to our tour, this was a great way to take a break from having to figure out what to do in each place.
In Beijing we had Sunny who was very accommodating with our group and even assisted in our last mi ute request in meeting with a Chinese doctor! We toured the main landmarks and of course, the Great Wall, which is much more fun if you come down on the tube!
Thank you china odyssey for making our vacation so easy and seamless!

“Three-Days in Beijing”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

The visit to Beijing was the beginning of our 12 day visit to China arranged by Roger Lee of China Odyssey Tours, following a long week of work in at the National Academy of Science in Beijing. This was not our first visit in China and so we picked specific places that we wanted to revisit and others that were new, and Roger and his team accommodated all our proposals and made this trip very exciting and enjoyable. Our most charming guide was LI Yan (nicknamed Carla) who was fluent in English and very knowledgeable about all the places we visited and the history and current events and life in China. Like everything else in China, Beijing had changed a lot since our earlier visits, more traffic, more people at the gardens and sites, much improved infrastructure, hotels, subways and airports. The temples and museums were restored and renovated, for instance the Museum of Chinese History and Revolution (though still no signs in English) and we had to rely on our guide for translation. The Lhama Temple and the Temple of Heaven with with its parks were clearly among the highlights, Prince Gong's Garden was too crowded to fully enjoy, and we missed the small musical performances I remembered from earlier visits.. The Dashanzi Art district was new and very interesting. Somewhat disappointing was the visit to the hutongs, I remember visiting the Eastern City District and the Lishi, and Wenchangs during my previous visits.
The former residence of Cai Yuang Pei, an academic educated partially in Germany and France and the founder of Beijing University, is a small jewel not many have discovered. This was a very beautiful and peaceful in this buzzing city. The adjacent Lee Family Restaurant is beautifully decorated, the meals and wine are extremely expensive and not worth it. Fortunately, our guide gave us excellent advise for dinner at restaurants, and also chose really good places to have lunch, great Chinese food, and not frequented by western tourists.
In all, the days in Beijing were memorable and most enjoyable due to the excellent preparation by Odyssey Tours and our beautiful guide. The cost of the trip was very reasonable, it included hotels, flights between cities, all museum fees, airport pick-ups and drop offs, and of course the wonderful guides here in Beijing and elsewhere. So, for us China Odyssey Tours was the best way to travel in China. We highly recommend its service!

Dear Vera,

Thank you for sharing your happy China tour on TripAdvisor.com. It's always nice to hear our clients praise our service, and also mention our travel consultant and tour guide’s name.

You are right that great changes have been taken place in China nowadays. If you are more interested in the less crowd places, we highly recommend Bhutan, Laos and Myanmar in the near future. They are lovely countries. We have created some relaxing itineraries while you also can enjoy the deep culture and amazing history. You might keep this information in mind for your consideration of next holiday soon as we strongly recommend you to visit these places before they are opened completely to the world.

Please let us know if there is something we can talk to you more about these Asian countries, we are more than happy to share its beauty with you at anytime.

Regards,

You're not alone with Odyssey!

“China Odyssey Tour- Private Tour”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

We had a wonderful time in Beijing. We ended up doing a custom tour with Odyssey as we only had 8 days to visit China and wanted to hit specific highlights. Our tour included 3 days in Beijing, 1 day in Xi'An, 1 day in Chengdu and 2 days in Shanghai. We were definitely 100% satisfied with Odyssey from the moment we started planning our itinerary with Vincent via email to getting dropped off the airport in Shanghai. Each tour guide we had was great, all very knowledgeable, flexible and very accomodating. We had Sherry as our tour guide in Beijing and she was very attentive, extremely fun, and well organized. Our tour guide in Chengdu, Kevin, was also extremely fun and had a great time even though it was way too short. We really felt like our tour guides were friends showing us their city. I think that is key too is that each tour guide was a true local and really knew the history and their city well.

The accomodations were also very awesome (except for Crown Plaza in Chengdu, relative to the other hotel accomodations, it was only subpar and there are so many options in Chengdu I wish our hotel was a little better there). The Hilton hotel in Xi'An and the Westin in Shanghai were awesome hotels to stay at.

The daily activities were also all very fun, learned a lot about the history, culture and people. We also learned about the economy, school system, politics and what it's like to live in China in the 21st century.

The food and restauarant chosen for each day were all great. No complaints!

The only thing I would recommend is the starting time of the trips were on the late side (except for Chengdu). If you are an early person, I would recommend requesting to start touring around 8-830 am. I think it makes a difference, especially if you only have a limited time in each city.

“Beijing Custom Tour”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

I cannot say enough about China Odyssey and our guide Stephen. The prep work was wonderful. They were very flexible to meet our needs. Traveling with two young children required a little extra planning. We wanted to plan a fun and complete tour of the area. Not only did China Odyssey do that but they exceeded our expectations. We includen the lunches which was an amazing benefit. Stephen did a great job of guiding us through our meals and providing a variety of dishes. The meals were fabulous and we all enjoyed them. Our guide Stephen was very knowledgable and joy to be around. His english skills were quite impressive. My children were really sad to say goodbye, honestly so were my husband and I. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. It is a great value for your money and allows you the freedom to see China the way you want to without the forced tours many groups require. Hotels and meals surpassed our expectations. Request Stephen if you can!
