Description: TRB serves contemporary European cuisine and is committed to providing the highest levels of hospitality for our guests. In creating our dining space, the Australian architectural and design firm Hassell emphasized the clean, light filled and thoroughly modern lines of what was once a television factory producing the capital's first black and white TVs. The history of the TRB compound spans 600 years: it includes ancient halls of worship, factories constructed after the Communist takeover and slogans left over from the Cultural Revolution. Renovation began in 2008, focussed on preserving all the layers of history and keeping as much as possible of the original structures.

This restaurant is in an out of the way location but the food is excellent and the service is superb. If you go for lunch, the food is the same but the prices are much better. They serve small portions of excellently prepared fresh and interesting food.

We had dinner there and from the begining every thing was perfect, the owner stopped by our table to make sure the service was perfec and the food was delicious. Anyone visiting Beijing, or anyone who just loves a good night out, should visit Temple Restaurant!

When the owner of TRB stopped by our table to make sure that everything was to our liking, I compared a visit to a restaurant as fine as this to a two-hour vacation. The rest of the world drops away and there is only the lovely setting, the food, the pampering service and a relaxing cocktail or glass of wine. "Do you mean like a massage?" he suggested. Yes! Exactly like that. Other diners have mentioned that TRB is hard to find. That is true but their website has enough clues and once you have found it, you will want to go back again and again. First, the setting. The juxtaposition of old temple in a hutong neighborhood against the clean modern lines and simple greys and light greens of the dining room was otherworldly. One had the feeling of making a discovery, dining somewhere only the lucky few would experience. But judging by the mixed crowd of locals and ex-pats from all over the world perhaps more than a few are so lucky. The bar prides itself on infusions and it seemed churlish not to let them experiment on us so I started with a fig manhattan. Served with an almost baseball size ball of ice, it remained refreshingly cool throughout yet never became watered down. This kind of attention to detail would be the hallmark of the rest of our experience at TRB. Along with the drinks arrived a set of amuse bouche; smoked salmon and cream cheese and beet and cream cheese over a small sliver of pumpernickel, then a small plate of piping hot cheese puffs that melted in the mouth. We ordered the set lunch which was quite a bargain - four courses for 178 RMB or about $30. First, a warm potato-leek soup with homemade croutons arrived. Then my son had one of the best risottos ever infused with fresh pesto. I opted for a homemade pasta with eggplant, squash and a generous sprinkling of pine nuts. Seafood in a bechamel and roasted en papillote was the delicious main course. The bread basket was one of the stars of the meal. It included mini garlic scented epi, flat carrot and olive breads. This was perhaps the only time in my life when the server brought fresh bread baskets without being asked. At the end of the meal when I asked if I might have the leftovers to take home the waiter said "of course" in such a way that hinted that he was only too delighted to comply. Overall, the service was exceptional. Tray bearing waiters stood at attention while their partners delicately conveyed the contents to the table. We barely had room for dessert but stoically managed to down a serving of lemon creme brulee and a chocolate caramel torte, respectively. A complimentary order of homemade truffles and Turkish delight followed by homemade marshmallows in a variety of pastel shades made for an embarrassment of riches. We left feeling renewed and ready to tackle the nearby Beijing Art Museum- exactly as if we had enjoyed a massage,

Had lunch there with my wife and son. We each ordered variations of the 5 course serving. The food was good but largely uninspired and anything but special. The lamb dish I ordered was particularly dry and tasteless. Not likely to visit again. The setting was nice although aside from the smallish temple facade, the interior could have been from any restaurant anywhere in the world. Very surprised at the consistently high ratings of this restaurant but maybe it was just an off day.

This is my second time to review Temple Restaurant. I went here again last week and spent a wonderful evening here. This must be the best restaurant in Beijing and can definitely compete with other top restaurants over the world. The setting, the food, the service, the wine selection. Anyone visiting Beijing, who considers him/herself as a foodie, or anyone who just loves a good night out, should visit Temple Restaurant!
