First appearances are deceptive, this hotel is down a narrow, authentic, residential backstreet complete with associated sights and smells. Located in a Hutong (back street) the location is fantastic!
Rooms are more like rustic inn type, clean with comfortable beds, plumbing and showers are good.
Breakfast is basic, coffee, toast, choice of cooked eggs plus various Chinese veg options... Restaurant not used for evening meals as it was too easy to walk to nearby food places. Beer in hotel @ 16RMB / 330ml. Shop around corner = 10RMB / 600ml.
Must try Little Yunan for real Chinese food, and Peking Duck by Beihai Lake, on the left (west) side of lake just beyond Sex and the City Club. Again appearances are deceptive... descend into basement banquet hall for fantastic food and live Chinese entertainment. All for about 150RMB pp.
280RMB Great Wall tour = good value. Be prepared for 1.5hr bus and a long walk with steep climbs. Son and I got to Tower 23 (end of line) and back in 1.5 hrs up and 45 mins down - took cable car up and down.
Transfer to airport took 40mins into city and 50mins out, cost 80RMB each way. Enjoy

Baffled how this gets a 4 star rating? More like a 2 star. Didn't feel safe arriving down dim small street, carrying suitcase ( taxi can not fit down the street) first introduction was a rat running across the road! Reception tiny, but staff nice. Rooms very basic but clean, no bar, no refreshments, no room service. If I had booked a 2 star hotel then maybe I would of been happy but I was expecting a 4 star! Would not stay again I like a bit more luxury, expensive for what you get.

This hotel has a ton of potential - great location, authentic Beijing feel. However most of the rooms on the first floor (there are only two floors and most rooms are on the first floor) have a garbage/sewer/dead animal smell that would not go away. Initially, when we asked to have some rooms changed, they said they were full, which they clearly were not. Eventually the rooms were switched but it would not be worth the risk to stay there again. Staff were also unhelpful, not able to give much information, and check in took a long time for no reason. The manager was very over eager and kept getting in his employees' way. He also kept trying to come in our rooms without explanation. Would not stay in this hotel again!

We stayed here for 3 nights, whilst spending some time in Beijing en route to Manila. I couldn't have chosen better. This hotel is an easy walk from the Nanluoguxiang subway station, easily reached by walking through Sanyanjing Hutong (with the aid of a GPS app) just a 15 minute walk. The room was lovely and warm on arrival as it was bitter outside. Excellent shower, super comfy beds and lots of space. Wifi wasn't very successful, but we got by. Perfect location to walk to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Jingshan Gardens are just across the road, worth a is it to get a birds eye view of the Forbidden City. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. Highly recommended for the price we paid.

When I visited it was really cold in beijing. But the employees of the hotel were so nice and friendly! English is not a problem so even if you don't speak Chinese you can arrange ereything here. Nice comfortable rooms with nice douche!

The rooms on the ground floor are too cold in the winter.
