“The highlight of my trip to Beijing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

I took the noodle making class when I found that the dinners were all booked. WHAT FUN! Making noodles with a cleaver! And dining on the fruits of our labors with new-made friends could not have been a better experience. We have all come home with the recipes and some Sichuan Peppercorns and our aprons to remind us of this totally lovely experience.
One couple in our group had been lucky enough to score dinner reservations and they couldn't say enough good things about it! DON'T MISS THIS EXPERIENCE in this wonderful hutong. Wandering around in the vegetable market before our class was just another delight to add to the day.

“Chinese Dumpling Cooking Class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

Took the class on 18 April 2013 and was really impressed at the concept of a kitchen classroom located in a cozy hutong. The ingredients provided were really fresh and the pace of the class was manageable. I would love to plan future holidays to Beijing around the cooking class schedule of Black Sesame Kitchen and would certainly hope to get onto the reservation list for the Wine and Dine event. Strongly recommended activity to anyone visiting Beijing.

“Great cooking experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

This was such an enjoyable morning. Six of us were booked for this course and we arrived to a well prepared room with our goodie bag of an apron and little satin bag of peppercorns. The cleaver for chopping the ingredients looked a bit daunting but we managed not to lose any fingers-always a good start especially if there are any vegetarians sharing the food. Folding the dumplings was a real skill and the final products were washed down with plenty of beer. Highly recommend this as a fun way to spend a morning. The only reason not to give 5 stars was that there were 12 people around the one cooking area which was a little cramped especially when we were all in full swing. All the staff were friendly, helpful and smiley :)

“Learn how to cook delicious chinese dishes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

We live in Beijing and we have assisted twice to the classes (making dumplings and imperial dishes), It's amazing to discover how different chinese people cook than western people. All the dishes are very simple about ingredients but very tasty.

The teacher introduces you all the most common chinese sesonings in every class and teach you different techniques to cut the ingredients. All the time you feel free to ask and share you oppinion. The enviroment is very relaxed due to the groups are small. We enjoy a lot the class and even more the results of them, food was delicious...

The price (300RMB) is ok for a cooking class than includes the meal.

I recommend to everyone who likes cooking (and eating) to visit Black Sesame Kitchen.

“Lesson and lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

Looking at the last few reviews I would agree that this is a great way to spend a morning, learning cleaver skills, then about the different ingredients used in Chinese cooking, then actually preparing lunch. If there's time Chef Wang will help you to cook your own dish as well! Fresh ingredients and an interesting mix of people, with a knowledgeable host [Candice on the day we went] and experienced chef, all contribute to a fun experience.
