To go to the Bee Museum(free entrance) you do need to pay entry into the Beijing Botanical Garden(basic entry 10 rmb, can buy combo ticket of 50 rmb for entry into Conservatory and Wofu Temple). I went on a Wednesday in June and had the place to myself all day.
Take subway line 4to Beigongmen, exit A, both buses 331 and 563 from here for 13 stops to Beijing Zhiwuyuan Namen. This is about a 1/2 hour ride.
This enters the Garden at the southeast gate. The Bee Museum is not listed on any map or direction signs in the park. I had a hard time finding it because I didn't know how to ask in Chinese, and no one understood the Bzzzzz sound for bee.
If you take the main path toward the Wofu Temple, at the last breakaway before going up to the temple, turn left, you may then see faded signs with a bee on it on the right. If not keep walking till you see narrow water and turn right. Right after the Magnolia (lily) garden on your right, there will be a path leading up to the right with a faded bee. If you pass it by you will reach the Mei flower garden.
Not a lot of English here, except for the category headings, but very nicely presented via pictures and products. Several rooms to go through. I gave it a 4 as not a lot of English and hard to find.
