Located in the hipster trendy baochao hutong across the street from the orchid hotel, this cool spot is walking distance from the tourist-driven thrones of nan luogu. Run by a very friendly namesake and his family, you can see the dumpling skins being made in front of you. Opt for some of the specialty ones including those with cheese. Delicious!

Mr Shi's is in the middle of a hutong, but easy to find. Specially if you take one of those handicapped driven trikes near the underground station.
It's very busy and if you're lucky you can eat outside. Atmosphere is great and you will hear many languages.
The food is even greater, real Chinese and really tasty. And a big plus, They do have an English menu. (-:

We stayed across the street at The Orchid Hotel and every review said Mr. Shi's is a must try. They were right, we ate here twice! Once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times the food was excellent. Good portion sizes, delicious flavors and they proudly have a sign in the window that says no MSG or chicken flavoring added. I liked and appreciated that. Kung Pao Chicken is excellent!

Mr. Shi's was just a friendly little place with a great choice of fried or boiled dumplings. Mr. Shi himself is a bright, and friendly soul who is genuinely interested in his visitors. While making every effort to understand my broken Mandarin, Mr. Shi and his waitress served the tastiest dumplings and a large pot of tea. After dining there in the evening with my work colleagues, I went back during the day to enjoy a plate of 15 pork and chicken dumplings while writing about my trip in my journal.
I can't wait to return.

Nice small restaurant in a non touristic Hutong. The food is great, they serve all kind of dumplings (fresh made) and Sichuan dishes. And it's cheap.
