“Lovely place to stay in a good location”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

Had a nice 3-night stay here. The room was beautiful and comfortable and everything worked. Decent breakfast (note - needed more coffee!) and friendly staff who went the "extra mile" (e.g. when a taxi we ordered hadn't arrived on time - no fault of the hotel - a front desk attendant ran out several blocks to the main street to flag one for us). We had a second reservation later during our stay in Beijing and were bumped due to some overbooking problem, but the Red Wall accommodated us at a deluxe sister hotel, more than compensating us for the last-minute change and being extremely gracious and apologetic about it. I believe you can have confidence in booking here. Would definitely stay again.

I started my trip to China by spending two nights at the Red Wall Garden Hotel. Firstly, the airport pick up was a real bonus and the driver was promptly waiting for me despite the midnight arrival. The hotel accommodation was delightful with a stylish traditional Chinese decor. The bed very so very comfortable (as I had read in other reviews) and the "huge" shower head was a treat. Overall very comfortable. The breakfast included was fine but there could have been a bit more variety. The location was very good with easy access to public transport and shopping. There ios a supermarket just around the corner too... A great place to start my holiday and I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to others.

I and a colleague spend 3 nights in Read Wall Garden hotel. The experience was perfect. Rooms were great. Especially the ones overlooking the garden .... In the morning you could hear birds singing in the center of Beijing. It was so quite and calm there. Breakfast is average (not a five star one) but of good quality. Staff was great at all times even though they are not very fluent English speaking ... They do their best though to help you and at the end you have good information. They have great spots inside the hotel as well. the library the waiting spaces ... The furniture in the rooms all wooden giving a home like atmosphere... the wooden floor is a plus but be careful as you produce some noise when walking around. You may find it difficult to spot the hotel location as well. Many taxi drivers are not familiar with the hotel but this is something that will change eventually. With the use of a hand held GPS and some asking we manage to find it VERY easy the first night that we arrived using the airport bus though.

Room Tip: try the ones looking the garden ... and if you can take one with the small balcony ... drinking your...

We stayed for 5 nights in July 2011. The hotel was situated within Old Beijing in an authentic old (and narrow) Beijing street. It's 5 minutes walk to the nearest subway station, and 20 minutes walk to Wangfujing Street.
The hotel was just over a year old, so it stood out against the old buildings in the street. They made a lot of effort to achieve a traditional Chinese look while providing modern comforts, and did quite a good job. The floor that we stayed on was even non-smoking (although someone in our neighbouring room smoked in the middle of our stay there - we could smell it and the staff opened the door to air it, which made it worse for us). The wooden furniture in the room, plus the poor ventilation, made some of our noses run on the few couple of nights, but was okay rest of the stay.
The staff were friendly, helpful and overall provided very good service. The buffet breakfast was just passable and they ran out of food on a couple of occasions, only replenished when asked by guests. The one dinner we had there exceeded expectations though.
At RMB1,100 per night, our verdict of the hotel was “nice, but overpriced” probably due to its location and ambience.
Liked Best: Location and ambience (i.e. not a concrete hotel building)
Liked Least: Breakfast (decent, but could be better)

This hotel has the potential to be excellent with some minor improvements, nevertheless, I would recommend to stay here. It was the nicest hotel & most helpful staff during our one month stay in China.

Pros: The rooms are all decorated differently which takes you away from the "hotel" feeling which we enjoy; the air conditioning worked excellent in minutes our room would be to the temperature that we wanted even taking in consideration the afternoon heat of Beijing; the Dux bed was marvelous! The staff was very helpful! Location of the Hotel is very centric! Overall presence of the hotel is really nice! The inside garden was very beautiful. Excellent internet (wireless) connection!

Cons: The hotels restaurant had a very limited selection; the hotel bar is hard to find and also lacks ambiance; despite that the location is centric the hotel was hard to find which makes it hard even in a taxi, most taxi drivers did not know where it was; our shower had a leak which would cause the complete bathroom to get wet, we did not complain about it to the hotel since it was nothing major;

Our overall experience of the hotel was very good! We really enjoyed our 1 week stay and would go back.

This is a lovely hotel, beautifully designed. Great location, near the "big" hotels such as the Peninsula, but on a hutong. (cab drivers have a little trouble finding it.) The rooms are spacious and gracefull, combining Eastern elegance with Western utililty. Food is wonderful (we had all three meals there at least once). Although largely lacking English language skills, the staff was lovely and very helpful. We really felt at home here, and is we were getting at least a whiff of "regular" Bejing life.

Room Tip: It would have been fun to have one facing the courtyrard, but it's really not importa.
