An amazingly unique place to have a nice dinner with friends or as couples...then, walk around and find a place to listen to live music (or join yourself via karaoke).

You might forget you are in a giant city with more than 30million people. This place has a Chinese, but yet international feel to it.

We loved walking around here so much that we went back a second time later in our visit. Lots of restaurants and beautiful views. Surrounded by hutongs, you can get pedicab rides and shop for souvenirs, but I'd say just find a restaurant with outside seating and enjoy a rest.

Hou Hai is a small finger lake just across the road from Beihai. It is a much smaller lake with many newer restaurants in old Chinese style. Near Hou Hai is Soong Qing Ling's house AND a hutong worth visiting, so a 3-in-one stop. It is FREE unlike Beijai. ANd if Starbucks is in your veins, there is an outlet here.
