Owner description: This bustling area is a hub for contemporary Chinese art with a wide array of different styles. This old factory compound has been perfectly converted to house numerous galleries and bookshops & cafes.

Great way to get an insight to the thinking and perceptions of China's new artist community. Fascinating experience.

For the artsy in you, do not forget to spend half a day here. Great for quirky yet cool souvenirs. You won't regret coming here. Nice cafes around too. However, be sure to leave before the peak hour 6pm traffic if you are planning to visit in the afternoon.

Good luck finding a cab back to city center. Most cabs will not take you so you have to negotiate a flat rate and don't get into any cabs that aren't taxis. It was around 40 RMB to get there but coming back, we got a taxi to finally take us for 60 RMB. Which is an extra $3 CAD. They don't expect tipping there so had they been not so crass about not taking us, I would've just tipped them well anyway. Worth the trek if you're into art and sculpture. Lots of little shops and do stop by Timezone 8 for sushi (left side, not the patio). Stellar Japanese dishes of all kinds.

This district is an interesting peek into the modern art scene going on in Beijing. The many galleries are open to the public with regularly changing exhibits. There are also cafes and shops for those looking for something "different" to bring home from their trip.
