Description: Sureño is the Mediterranean restaurant located on the lower ground level of The Opposite House—an intriguing urban hotel in the cosmopolitan district of Sanlitun. The warm interiors boast an open kitchen and a wood fired oven that evoke the casual style of the Mediterranean, where guests can also watch the live action while they dine. The menus draw on the freshest ingredients of Southern Europe and are updated quarterly at the turn of seasons.Through the à la carte and tasting menus, the restaurant focuses on seafood, hand made pastas, salads, and tapas, as well as choice cuts of imported meat prepared in the wood fired oven. The style is rustic and typical of the dishes one would expect in Spain, Greece, Southern France and Italy, with an inspiring wine selection for wine pairings.

“Great addition to Beijing offering”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

This is the second time I have visited Sureno. The first time coincided with a Greek festival. My meal was OK but two of my dining companions were disappointed. My most recent visit allowed me to order from the normal menu.

The food was good (perhaps not great), service and surroundings fantastic, and the wine (good international wine list) excellent.

If you want a good Western style meal in Beijing then consider Sureno.

Clearly this is one of the go to places in Beijing. I noticed both the Australian and New Zealand Ambassadors dining on this visit.

“The full package”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

The problem with Sureno is that it is so good and reliable that we often end up choosing to eat here rather than trying out new places. The tapas type dishes are absolutely delicious. It's lovely to share a few dishes. I've not eaten any duds from the menu. Service is brilliant - the effervescent maitre d (Reggie) adds to the experience.

“Salty”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

This restaurant is beautiful and in a great location. The service was excellent and everything ran efficiently but the food was mediocre. Everything I had was far to salty and overall I think the restaurant is overrated.

“Good but expensive”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

This is certainly a very good restaurant. I think the menu is way too long - I don't know how restaurants with huge menus and very special items (goose liver, oysters, truffle, etc.) are able to keep things fresh in this city. Management here would be better off making the menu shorter and then bringing prices down in line with other leading Euro/Med restaurants in the neighbourhood. You could have got away with these prices in 2005 but it's 2012 and there are a bunch of other kids on the block. Everything is good here except the pasta which is kind of funny because the chef is Italian.
