“Best dining experience in china”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

We booked this restaurant for our first night in china. We made our booking by email. We had quick response to advise that they could take our booking. A couple days before our booking we received email instructions on how to find the restaurant. We took the subway. We asked people along the way to ensure we were going the right way and even thou we have no mandarin, the people we asked could all read English and pointed us in the right direction. When we arrived at the last corner a old lady came out of one of the shops and walked us into the restaurant. Finding the restaurant is half the fun. We were seated at the table right next to the kitchen. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is great. We sat with people from different countries, who we had never met, but the conversation was good. The staff are so great in explaining the meals and answering any questions that you have. This is one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Should not be missed.

“Great experience, yummy food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

We went to Black Sesame Kitchen on the recommendation of a friend who'd visited Beijing three months back. And I will need to get her a box of chocolates to thank her for the recommendation! Going to Black Sesame Kitchen is an experience... from walking down the charming hutong alley to being seated at a communal table with a bunch of people (in our case, only tourists, though I think some Beijingers should also try it out) and finally down to the food! I am a semi-vegetarian so the food had been adapted to my tastes and it was excellent! From the salad that was derived from imperial cuisine to the eggplant dish that was especially for me, to the amazing black sesame icecream... YOU MUST VISIT THIS PLACE!
We were lucky to have really nice people at our table, which added to the experience.
The staff is friendly and it really feels like eating at a friend's place... of course a friend who is a mind-blowing cook! :)

“Nicest place to eat in Beijing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

You are looking for a great place to eat in Beijing, right? Ok, stop it right there and do yourself a favor: close all the other browser tabs and windows you have opened! You have just found what you were looking for! Black Sesame Kitchen was one of the nicest restaurant experiences I've ever had. It is a very different concept, where you'll share a table with other people and will have your food cooked right in front of you. The restaurant has only 2 tables, and it is very cozy. The atmosphere was just wonderful and I had a great time meeting the nicest people from all over the world (we were 7 on the table: a Spanish couple, a Chinese, a Malaysian couple, an American and me, a Brazilian). Besides, the food was impeccable (you'll taste over 10 Chinese delicious dishes!). I specially loved the pumpkin dumplings and the homemade black sesame ice-cream with candied bananas.
Least but not last: the people from the Black Sesame Kitchen are really kind and pleasant!

This is really a great place for foreigners to taste some excellent Chinese food in the best possible atmosphere! Don't miss this for anything!

“A change to the norm!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

This restaurant is literally like being in someones living room - a brilliant change to the normal routine of going to restaurants and definitely gave the impression of eating as a local in China. Wonderful supply of food and drinks. I do not have a very adventurous pallet but all the menu appealed to my taste buds. Go early and shop around the hutongs before going to the meal. The owners friend joined our table however, although he was very nice it was a bit too random for us - me and my boyfriend hadn't seen our parents for 6months and would have rather eaten as our private group but perhaps I should have menionted that when booking. A very memorable evening.
