“All ruined by one bad experience with staff”
Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

The place is great, good location, bar and food.
However during our leve the staff would not give us our key deposit back unless we had a little receipt we were given at the very start.
I mean what "proof" do they need that we had stayed there. Beijing was full of scammers and overall rude people (with exceptions of course).

We stayed there by Mac 2013.The room rate is cheap so you can't expect more. The basin is terrible as the water flowing out is hot water,so you will easily get hurt if you turning on without tasting it first. Also the toilet bowl was blocked when we just stayed one day,the staff said it was already like that before we came. They are very efficient to fix it well quickly.

We were really surprised by the value you get for the money. Hostel is at a great location with a lot of good restaurants and near the central shopping district. Rooms are good as well, nothing special. Special thanks to the girl behind the reception who did an amazing job with helping me try to get my jacket back which i lost going out at club Vic's (really good by the way). So if you read this, you are awesome!!!

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The layout of the hostel is great with a good communal area right in the centre and the rooms are really good too

One downer though was that as I was checking out, I felt a little scammed as the lady wanted to see my payment receipt toget my my room key deposit back (£10).
Giving the key back was not enough!! I'm sure the hostel make a lot of extra money from this so make sure you keep your payment receipt.

I was in Happy Dragon for 5 days. The adress and directions than they sent me to arrive in the hostel was perfect, it was really easy to get there by subway.I booked for three days. They are so nice and have a good english, I can recommend 100 % to stay there. In the bar there are 1 girl than speak spanish as well. They gave me a lot of good information in the reception, they helped me a lot, and not just once, but many times. Thank you Peach, Abby, Winona, Lisa, Tony (guide) and mainly SALLY
I was in a tour to the Great Wall the guy is so funny, you can take your time to walk and take photos, the lunch was really good.

Good quality backpackers in a fairly central area of Beijing. We've stayed here on three separate occasions in the last few months.
Happy Dragon is located just off a plaza away from the main road. Make sure you look at the directions that they send you! It's easy to find if you have their map, otherwise a bit of a pain!
The hostel itself has a bar that feels just like a proper pub. The food is good and averagely priced. Draft beer is also good value (significantly more expensive than elsewhere in China, though average for Beijing)
Dorms are fairly big, have en suite bathrooms, huge security lockers and plug sockets/lights by every bed. There is also a heater that gets the place pretty toasty. Perfect for the winter!
En suite bathrooms are pretty good. Each bathroom has its own water heater/tank, so you always have hot water in the shower. They seem to get cleaned every day.
Staff here are really friendly and can book you on all the local tours. They will also book trains ad have tickets delivered for 20RMB (saves a trip to the station!) Perfect English is spoken at reception and in the bar.
Wifi is available throughout the building free of charge. It is reliable, but not really quick enough for Skype/photo uploading. It's fine for Facebook and email though. There are also a few computers by reception for general use, though these are not free.
There is a 50RMB per person deposit payable on arrival (like most places in China). This is refundable when you return your key (provided you don't break or steal anything!)

This hostel is just 5mins walk from the Dong Si subway. It is not very prominent at first but once you locate it, it can be easily navigated from the subway station. Accessible to Wangfujin street by walking about 15mins. It is a 2 storey hostel and the front desk staffs were friendly and patient to guide me to the place via phone. Requested for early check in and appreciated for their consideration. Staffs speaks English although I can speak Mandarin.

Place is relatively clean, room was basic with a/c, tv and bath ensuite. Walls along the corridor filled with graffitis allowed by the Owner (I guessed). There is a bar that offers local and western food. Taste is good but the price is a bit pricey. Recommended for budget travellers.

Room Tip: Choose the upper floor rooms that offered more privacy and less noise from the lobby.
