“Luxury Courtyard Experience at a Great Location”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

A very comfortable hotel with tons of character. It is at a good location just 5min walk from nanluoguxiang where there are many cafes and snacks, and 15min walk to Nanluogu subway station. (If you take taxi to the hotel, it is a 5min walk if you drop at mainroad off Beibingmasi, or ride through Qinlao hutong directly to hotel backdoor.

Despite the convenience, it is in a quiet part of the hutong. You get total tranquility inside the hotel, the courtyards with koi pond and magnolia trees feel like yours alone most of the time. We stayed in two deluxe rooms. Two deluxe rooms share a private foyer that is lockable.

We rented a chauffered car, arranged by the hotel, to Chengde enroute sightseeing at Eastern Qing Tombs. The service, though pricey (paid direct to hotel), was EXCELLENT. The car was a 2L Passat. The price was inclusive of gas, tolls and parking. You can tour with a peace of mind, not worrying about touting for extra add-ons by the driver. The driver was very professional - polite, opened car doors for the upteempth times, not intrusive, did not rush us at sightseeing and kept the car clean and stocked with bottled water. We even saw the driver did route researching while at Qing Tombs so that he know exactly how to go to the next sight. He has had the final destination in Chengde keyed into the GPS way beforehand. Ask for Mr Xu, the surname of the driver.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet. Deluxe rooms are located in main building compound which is more majestic. Del...

I was at Hans Royal Garden back in July'11 but just got around to write a review now.

The 5-star was for the property itself. The hotel is absolutely stunning, so much characters. It was so surreal to just sit at the stone table at the courtyard. It has been almost 2 years but when I close my eyes, I still can visualize how beautiful the place was.

The service was great but I wouldn't say it was 5 stars. Hotel staff were friendly and always tried to accommodate your request. They also helped you with the restaurant booking but I was not sure if that was for the restaurant they had connection with but we enjoyed the meals all the same.

The location was close to a walking street so there are lots of snacks and souvenirs. There were lots of local designers/boutiques. The area felt a little touristy but I also saw some young locals hanging out there.

A must for the beauty of the property alone.

Room Tip: I got the corner room in the left courtyard and it was really spacious.

Who does like the old authentic feeling came to the right place. A lot of historie in this place. Antique furniture thru the whole hotel. Very nice. The rooms are updated so don't worry. The staff was very helpful particularly Sarah and Stacy. Some problems with the internet was solved right away. We got also tips where to go for shopping and food. That worked just fine. Sitting in the middle of all this little hutongs ( small side streets ) gives you he real feeling of China. A lot of places you can walk to like temples, markets and lakes. All in all a good choice to stay.
Saying that there is a few things to keep in mind, your are in China. Lifestyle is different. So cleanliness and the love to details are just not there. To bad. Who loves hard bedding and pillows will be happy. The discreption of the rooms are not quite correct and some services are not available. The chine's restaurant is very nice but the food is average and way to expensive. The western restaurant we been told is not great either. But there are a lot of places to eat and good once too.
Make sure you get a taxi from the hotel or restaurant it is cheap and the best way to go. Staying on the road and waving might be a little challanging. Not every taxi takes you.
But overall not bad, go and enjoy China.

Room Tip: For longer stays take han's suite, bigger with seperate sitting area. Bathroom with tub and show...

My partner and I spent 3 nights at Han's Royal Garden and had a great time. The staff are very helpful and polite, rooms are clean and spacious. Sarah was most helpful as she went above and beyond to help with wifi, directions and recommendations, as she really made us feel very special. The best asset of this hotel is it's location being so close to hunch back lane and Houhai lake. Everything was in walking distance. There are great cafes and restaurants throughout the hotongs. Great hotel that embraces the traditional China.

Perfect location, just off the Nanlougu xiang with many small shops, restaurants, street food etc. NLGX is quite busy both day and night, but the the hotel location is quiet and undisturbed. Nice area for walking aroung. Walking distance to the Houhai area (lakes) (10-15 mins) and approx 10 min walk to nearest metro station (Zhangzizhonglu).
It is beatifully furnished with chinese antiques (?), so many things to look at! Rooms are located around four cortyards, each a little different from the others. Our rooms were quite spacious, with separate sleeping areas and nice large bathrooms.
Breakfast buffet was a mix of a continental and a chinese breakfast. You could order scrambled eggs to eat with your bacon and baked beans or you could have noodles, chinese pork or chicken sausages, fish, vegetables etc. There were also fruit, bread (toast), cornflakes, juice etc. Could vary depending on the day. Check the price if breakfast is not included in your room price.
Staff were nice and helpful, we will definitely stay here again if we come back to Beijing!

PS. If you arrive by taxi, choose the Qinlao Hutong entrance, since it has a parking space - you will also find staff helping you with your luggage here. It is helpful to have a printout of the adress (we had a printout from google maps) in chinese, the taxi driver might not recognise the adress in pinyin.

Family of 5 stayed here for three nights and loved the style of the hotel. Rooms were well equiped and clean and the staff were helpful. Stacey especially at the reception desk helped with her excellent English translation of our needs. The hotel is in the middle of the Hutongs right in the centre of Shanghai so it is well placed for walking around the many small pedestrian alleyways. The hotel itself is an oasis of calm with it's numerous courtyards. The kids played here while we rested. Tons of character and scores high on originality we took off 1 star for the average buffet breakfast (quantity fine but just ok quality) and the western food which was just ok and way over priced. Best to eat out.

As we had being traveling for 16 days and had staying in all kinds of 4 and 5 star hotels is was a real treat to find a real gem in Beijing that was walking distance to shops and bars etc etc.
Most of the staff spoke a good level of English and it was a real treat to change out here.
If you did not like the breakfast there was a range of cafes that did breakfast outside the hotel. We eat the breakfast and they had an egg station and good tea and coffee.
The receptionist offered to show me a place for a mani and pedi when I enquired after one. They went out of their way to help.
