I had a comfortable room with nice duvets on the bed, a spacious shower, free internet (with ethernet cable provided). The buffet breakfast was very reasonable (38 rmb = about $7US) and everything from coffee to fried eggs to pork buns to seasonal stir fry vegetables and meats. All you can eat. I don't understand the photograph of the lakeside--there is no lake around this hotel, only a parking lot. I was concerned from reading another review that I'd be charged for wearing the bathrobes provided, but that didn't happen. If you're on a budget, avoid the in-room water, tea, drinks, etc, as a small bottle of water was almost as much as the entire breakfast buffet = 30rmb for a small bottle. There is a lockable safe in the closet as well as two gas masks in the event of a fire. I didn't have time use the health club, though they have one.

Room Tip: Though I was in a non-smoking room, I could smell cigarette smoke from time to time, coming from eit...

I stayed at Shenzhou International Hotel in April 2011 for a business meeting at a nearby location. The hotel is comfortable and the room has good facilities, with TV, reasonably fast internet etc.

There is a reasonable restaurant in the hotel if you're too weary to venture outside, with pictures in the menu, although breakfast gets a little repetitive. Recommendations nearby include a great Sichuan/Szechuan restaurant a little to the left of the hotel on the main street.

The desk staff do speak some English, and they were helpful on arrival, but on departure their English ability seemed to decline when I tried to opt-out of using dynamic currency conversion to pay the bill (this is where they try and charge your credit card in your native currency, at their own exchange rate, rather than in RMB). You then get a credit card slip stating "you have chosen to be charged in £", which is false since you were never given a choice!

Although the room internet is fast, trying to print my boarding pass in the 'business center' (really just a cupboard behind the reception desk) took at least half an hour as the connection was incredibly slow.

Since my last visit to the Hubei Hotel across the street 2.5 years earlier, traffic on Zongguancun Nadaji has noticeably reduced, probably due to the introduction of the subway line. There is a nearby stop next to the National Library, connecting you easily around the town (all the subway system has English instructions). The traffic that there is can be avoided by using the footbridge.

At night there are numerous fruit sellers etc. wheeling their barrows around. A good recommendation for stocking up on groceries is the supermarket just inside the CMA (China Meteorological Association) campus just across the road. For exercise, walk south down the main street to the large park, where you can walk or run around the lake.

A nice hotel that is centrally in Beijing. Moderately priced.
This hotel is close to the National Library subway station. So you can take the subway to the train to the bullet train. This will give you access to many of the attractions here in Beijing. Traveling this way is cheap!
The Beijing zoo is only one subway station away.
The hotel staff is friendly and speaks English.
They do have non smoking floors.
Best to eat outside the hotel. Explore the main street and you will find many great places to eat.
The down side is that they could do with a good carpet cleaning in their rooms.

These are the bad things that happened to us in this hotel
1st day - loaf of bread was gone
2nd day - bag of chips was gone
3rd day - make up kit was lost
4th day - asked to pay RMB240 for a dirty bathrobe
5th day - scarf was lost
6th day - asked to pay RMB10 for a dirty face towel
final day - we were told that a cup and glass were missing. There was only one wine glass in the room and 2 cups but they were claiming that there were 2 wine glasses and 3 cups.

I just couldn't imagine that a guest will be charged for a dirty robe and face towel. It only means that you should not use them at all or you have to wash them after using. . .
They are trying to find ways to earn extra by doing these things.
