Owner description: Beijing Sideways provides you with a sideways look of China, Beijing and its surrounding.Aboard our vintage sidecar motorbike, we show the Beijing we love, without the crowds. This form of transportation allows us to be very flexible with our exploration, stopping easily whenever necessary, a very close proximity with the city and countryside where you can «almost touch» anything you see, but above all it’s a sightseeing wonder! Did we mention it’s extremely fun?

Four of us did the one day trip to the wall yesterday. Had an exhilarating day! The drive out there is great, the wall is a challenging climb! By the time we stopped for lunch we were ready for a rest! Cold rose and baguettes were an exciting surprise and reward for effort. Being by ourselves walking on the wall will be one of our special memories. Guides were fantastic, lots of information and they made sure we stayed safe. Our bikes and their drivers added a lot of character to our trip. It was a very efficient company to deal with through the booking process too. Was great to get out of the city and see some more rural areas too.

It was a great adventure and real fun doing this tour. It did not only offered to us fantastic views of a very remote section of the Great Wall but also an exciting ride through Beijing, its suburbs, traffic and its mountains. It is absolutely worth the effort and easily feasible in one day. There are enough breakes during the rides. All the guides have deep knowledge and experience about the region, the attractions and the motorbikes itsself so don't worry about anything. We would again choose this agency for a ride at any rate.

My three grandsons age 10, 13, and 16, my son-in-law, and myself took the 2-day tour. It was by far, the highlight of our trip to China. Our driver/guides were Kevin (French) and Chris (German) along with three wonderful Chinese drivers whose names I have unfortunately forgotten. All the Beijing Sideways staff were interesting, knowledgable and fun to be with. They picked us up at our hotel in Beijing in five beautiful vintage bikes the morning of the first day and we were off on our fantastic adventure.

First of all, it was a blast navigating our way through the snarled Beijing traffic in the sidecars. But soon we were out of hot and humid Beijing and into the cool and green mountain forests to the north of the city. After a brief stop at a small town grocery for water and snacks we continued north to the Silver Mountain Pagoda Forest (Yinshan talin). This is an isolated, beautiful Buddhist temple complex first built nearly 900 years ago during the Jin dynasty.

After Silver Mountain, it was on to the Great Wall. We visited the Huanghuacheng section of the wall which was recently restored and free from the tourist crowds. In fact, we had the wall all to ourselves. Be prepared for a steep climb but when you get to the top, the view is stunning. TIP: If you visit in the summer, bring an umbrella, the sun can be a bit intense. Beijing Sideways provided an excellent French-style lunch which we ate in one of the guardhouses on the wall. I don't know where Kevin found a french bakery in Beijing, but the bread seemed right out of Paris.

After the wall, we drove to a lovely guest house overlooking Lianhuashan Forest Park where we would spend the night. You can see a portion of the Great Wall from the patio of the house. The guest house had 8 or 10 small cabins, nicely furnished with air conditioning and western toilets. The owners (again I am sorry I have forgotten their names) prepared a wonderful Chinese meal for dinner.

The next day, it was back for a Beijing city tour. With the motorcycles, were were able to access some very small and narrow old traditional hutongs that would have been completely inaccessible with cars. It was part of Beijing we never would have seen without Beijing Sideways. For lunch, we ate at Mr. Shi's Dumplings and had a fabulous meal.

So that's pretty much our trip with Beijing Sideways. It was a blast riding in the sidecars and it was great to get out of Beijing and up into the mountains for a day. If you have the time, I would highly recommend Beijing Sideways. I would go back to Beijing just to do this tour again. It was that much fun.

I took an all-day tour from Beijing to the Lakeview section of the Great Wall with Chris, a German Expat. Riding through Beijing crazy traffic fully exposed in the sidecar was exciting. Then through the countryside, which was another very amazing experience. When we got to the wall, we were all alone. Chris was very knowledgeable and a great driver. if seeing the Great Wall is on your bucket list and you are up for a great hike, this is the only way to see the Wall and the countryside. I did this trip in August because of business...high humidity and heat, so it was a challenge...but I bet fall or spring would be beautify. A picnic lunch on the wall is provided.

I took the 4 hour tour through Beijing on a recommendation from a friend. It was definitely worth it! Kevin was on time, very engaging, knowledgeable and funny. Driving in the sidecar was adventurous and fun, definitely something you don't do everyday and a great alternative to a car. We covered a lot of ground, went through a lot of the hutongs on the way and to a market where Kevin helped with the price negotiations. I had a great time and would recommend this to everyone who doesn't want to do the bog standard tours that only tick attraction boxes. If you would like to see the true Beijing, this is the way to go.
