The worst in the world

Review of Mingdu Hotel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 6, 2012
Same story as previous viewers, I ended up here under a tour group. My advise if you see this hotel in your itinerary, ask for different one. The hotel is unbelievably dirty. No concierge, no bell boy, you bring your own suitcase to your room. The lobby is dirty and you can see thick debris floating in the aquarium. All through our stay, no one in the lobby or restaurant ever smiled, greeted us or try to be nice at all. My room is the MOST dirty room I've ever been into, thick dust on the carpet, in every corners, and you can actually see the super thick debris under neath the shelves. Beds are super hard, like sleeping on wooden plank. Don't ask about the bathroom, the bath tub is horrible. There were 3 of us in the room and on the next day, housekeeping only gave us 2 towels and folded the bathmat along with the towels, stacking it on top. We asked for our 3rd towel and no one came back with the towel. The next morning, we asked our tour guide to ask for our towel. The hotel refuse to give us one, insisting they've given 3 and we must've lost it. Seriously?!! After we return from the tour at night, our argument precede, I asked them to come with us to our room to search for the towel and our suitcases if they're still not convinced. They said they'll send someone over, but still won't give us the towel if they can't find it. What?!! What's the whole point then? We waited in our room anyway, to which no one came. Until our room light suddenly went off. We phoned the reptionist about this and waited, no one came. We went to the lobby, to see if they had sent someone on the lights, and apparently no one is aware that we called regarding the light. (I'm speechless by this point). We asked someone to come up and fix it, the receptionist answered: office close, we will fix tomorrow. That's when we lost it. Oh and just to add, we overheard that they told our guide that they will charge us for the towel as well, insisting we lost it.

23 ppl under tour group stayed 5 nights. From far the hotel looks grand with lighting. The lobby looks grand too, but not until you realised that there was adjourning building to the lobby that leads to rooms. You have to pass through a passage (about 100m), cold and windy condition before reaching the next block for the lift to the rooms. Located quite remotely away from shopping, not heavy traffic. Not ideal for ppl who would like to shop.

the housekeeping is good at keeping my room clean and replaced toileteries everyday. As blue colour towels were used, therefore hardly detect any stains. So i decided to change my towel everyday. A small safe is available but it's malfunction. No complimentary drinking water. You have to request for hair dryer. I requested twice which finally i got the one that works. With a TV and centralised control swtiches by the bedside.

There wasnt much complaint on 6th floor. Room 6618 bathroom door frame can see the wear and tear (rot). Room 6620 except found writing table is a bit dusty because construction works were just by the side of the hotel. Breakfast spread quite a variety of chinese breakfast with porridge with fried vegetables and noodles.i missed the freshly fried eggs/omelette but there was one day, there provide tea eggs.

Rooms at 5th floor is badly maintained, so some of the tour member changed to 4th floor, better but the toilet clogged.

The bed mattress is firm - it's ok for me.

The previous reviewers were absolutely right. The hotel is situated far from everything and they have bare minimum facilities.

My wife and I followed a tour in Beijing last week and we were brought to this hotel to stay for four nights. The room is big, clean and well maintained. However, the hotel is located in the middle of heavy constructions and thus can be quite dusty if you plan to leave the window open at night. Transportation was not an issue for us as we were following a tour bus but I do not see any taxi or bus stop nearby.

We were given two super single bed and glad to say that the bed is very firm (can be quite hard for some) but comfortable. Good enough for us to rest after a long day of touring round Beijing. The toilet is clean and basic toiletries were replaced everyday. Hot water is available and the water pressure is reasonably good. Beware, no bottled drinking water is available in the room. A kettle and mini fridge is provided but the fridge was not stocked up with food.

This hotel is situated far from everything. It is on the side road and even the taxi does not know where it is. Not recommended if you are on holiday.
The room however is big and clean.

I was booked into this hotel as part of a package, albeit very cheap, that touted "superior class" accommodations. This hotel is located at least 30 minutes on foot from the nearest subway station. The immediate neighborhood consists of recently razed old neighborhoods and a seedy short shopping street with pool tables positioned in front of some storefronts. In short, the location of the hotel is quite undesirable. The hotel is relatively recent construction, but is starting to show its age.

Bedding was quite clean and beds were firm, even a little too firm. No problem with the bath, such as hot running water, though I didn't like the mold on the underside of the bathtub mat.

I was a bit irritated at the cost for various extras -- to swim in the indoor pool (clean and reasonably warm) you have to pay an extra 20 yuan, and to use it you need to have your own swim cap; otherwise you have to pay an additional 10 yuan for it. Internet is 50 yuan a day.

The buffet breakfast was standard Beijing cheap hotel fare.

Although we were staying here on a package arranged by a Japanese tour company, no hotel staff spoke Japanese, nor did any speak English. This caused some problems related to confirming things like the swimming pool fees.
