Description: The Schoolhouse is based on an abandoned village school and is part of a sustainable tourism business founded by Jim Spear & Liang Tang, longtime expat residents of Mutianyu, in 2006. We offer local foods made fresh from scratch to groups of 12 to 144 people with family or buffet style menus. Advance booking is required. The operating season each year is early March to November, closed for winter vacation. Individual guests and small parties are welcome to book a table at the intimate lodge cafe in our nearby hotel, the Brickyard at Mutianyu, which is open year-round. The Brickyard is a long-running Travelers Choice winner based on a repurposed glazed tile factory and includes extensive gardens. The outdoor terrace offering spectacular views of the Great Wall is open for dining in clement weather. The Brickyard can also serve groups of 12 to 144 people on the premises year-round by prior booking. We also operate a nearby noodle shop called Xiaolumian open for groups of 12 to 36 people from early March to October by prior booking. The noodle shop is also open on weekends and holidays 12:00-16:00 from April to October to individual guests and small groups.

I read here this was one of the best restaurants near Mutianyu . Honestly, i was disspointed. The people there is kind. However ,they took more than twenty minutes to bring us the order. I ordered the duck leg (rmb 119) but it looked like a pigeon one. My boyfriend ordered the chicken breast (rmb 119) but he had to return it because it wqs not well cooked. Actually, inside was not cooked at all. The taste was not good at all. Plus, the taste was not good. We wanted to give the place another chance and we ordered the lemon cake. It was burned, dried and hard. So, it was expensive and not worthy. I dont recommend rhe place if you want to have a good meal.

One of the best and most relaxing weekends i had in a long time. Close that it did not happen but thanks to Raj at the Brickyard we managed to stay in the "hear desire villa" as we planned from the beginning. The villa is a must, a great location for a peaceful rest. The Brickyard is an experience itself, so well planned and maintained. The extra star is motivated by the team working there and again, thanks Raj, you did our weekend and we will for sure return!

This setting is unique and spa-like, probably due to the adjacent inn. The menu is a wonderful mix of Asian and western; the curry chicken was one of the best meals I had in China and the brownie was a delicious treat, but everything smelled amazing and we were all very satisfied with our orders. The staff were very accommodating of our group's food allergies as well. It's the perfect place for a bite after a hike at the Great Wall.

This is a great place to stop off, especially of you have a group visiting the Great Wall.

Food is locally sourced, good quality and very tasty. I have also used the sister property - The Brick Yard that is nearby, that is also very good with a nice outdoor eating area.
