As a former sous chef I can offer my own opinion and comments. The prices are "cheap" to expats since they usually compare the exchange rate but if value and quality for what you pay, then this place is not quite up to standards. The portions are small and in some cases, quite bland. It is noted that Paul is a chef but it appears quality control is not adhered to. Many of the items could be better if monitored regularly. The rule of thumb in the kitchen is to taste three times before serving. Obviously this rule has not been taught to the cooks in the back.

This was my favorite place to go for a hearty American breakfast, with REAL salty country ham (not Chinese style), fluffy pancakes and a tasty omelet. Paul, the owner, even orders American condiments like Heinz ketchup,A-1 sauce, French's mustard and Kraft mayo, to make you feel more at home. I liked his fish and chips-very crispy and fresh, his steak dinners (usually 100rmb for everything, dessert included), and his big burgers. On Mother's Day or Christmas, he has deals like that, so do look for them. He also makes the best cakes and pies (though sometimes the cherry pies don't have quite enough sugar), and western style breads, so be sure and stop by the bakery section. I definitely recommend this place to those seeking western-style food--when the longing hits, 'Steak and Egg' is much better than heading to McDonalds or KFC!

As an expat, i understand why a lot of people go here, but after a slew of bad experience i have boycotted this dump. For years a friend was paying extra for "fresh orange juice," which turned out to be box juice with a wedge of orange squeezed over it - to add pulp effect. The ingredients are not fresh, or healthy, and the coffee is famously bad. Grandma's kitchen is right next door, and way better value.
