Quanjude is one of the most, if not the most famous Peking Duck chains in China. The location in Qianmen is also one of the most frequented given its location near Tian'anmen Square.

However, in my opinion, the duck is only average and way over priced. If it is your first time eating Peking duck in Beijing, I would recommend avoiding Quanjude and going somewhere where you get better value and quality, such as Jingzun (see my review of Jingzun Roastduck Restaurant).

I give a 3 out of 5 because this was a mediocre restaurant. We were taken by our tour group who praised it as the best and most famous. Outside there is a human sized friendly duck for pictures (cute) to identify this restaurant.

The food was good and lots of extra fillers and side dishes. However, the Peking Duck, all 5 or 6 bites, were not what I'd call a dinner. At best, it was a tasty SMALL side dish. Each person is served a tortilla style flat bread to wrap their few strips of duck in for eating. Think 2 or 3 small strips of chicken or beef in a tortilla and you'll get the picture.

Many years ago my wife and I had a Peking Duck dinner in San Francisco. We each had about 1/2 duck and actually ended up with a little left over. Quan Ju De Roast Duck was a disappointment by comparison. I guess the reputation is built advertising, not satisfaction.

Pretty popular place. Always has waiting for seating. The duck was carved tableside but they quickly take away the remaining bones saying its to make a soup for later. At first i thought the meat seemed little for a 300rmb bird with lots left on the bones which was whisked away(to the kitchen im sure. Ordered the jellyfish which was super sour vinegar. Even the baby patchoi with chestnuts has too much riceflour added to the gelatinous sauce.

Ambiance was good.

Had better roast duck for 90rmb at a less popular restaurant.

Will not try again.

This is the oldest Peking duck restaurant but definitely not the best. They have a very organized queue system and you could see how the ducks were being roasted while waiting. Perhaps good for first time tourists to Beijing to try but not a place for a second visit. Btw, we waited an hour for a table as they do not accept reservations.

the biggest restaurant you could see. every body speaks English. food is very nice and tasty. you will wait for more than half an hour to be seated. the food is clean, and of good quality. remember it closes at 9pm, so go at least 2 hours before that time. bon apetit.
