Very good. Not expensiv, good service, good food (lots of small dishes). Restaurant is a bit difficult to find, but most restaurants in Beijing seem to have this challenge.

What an amazing restaurant. Hidden down an alley in an unlikely part of town, the Dali Courtyard restaurant is superb. I love the fact that the menu is set so you get an excellent sample of regional style and food.

Seriously, if you love food, you'll love this place. If you're in Beijing, you owe it to yourself to eat here.

Dali is a great little restaurat, and there's a reason why it's name pops up again and again on 'must try' lists for tourists. Firstly, Yunnan cuisine offers something a little different, with a welcome infusion of fish, freshness and spice. I'll not go into detail as to the meal itself, principally as the menu is set and will vary from one day to the next.

The building is set around a courtyard, with a few differently decorated rooms set back from it. Tables are available all over the shop, but on the right evening I guess the courtyard itself is the place to be. It's got a pleasant atmosphere to it, but don't come expecting anything particulary 'Chinese' in this regard. I found it to be about 2/3 full of either foreign tourists or expats. This fact might however help account for the relatively generous wine list on offer, and it's also a credit to them that they don't seem to have ramped prices up as the tourists keep flooding in.

Service was excellent, and I'm struggling to find fault in any real aspect of my visit. Highly recommended.

Really lovely fresh Yunnan food. Our highlight was the Tilapia fish cooked over lemongrass. Highly recommended.
