“great location”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

the location of the marriott is central to most activities such as the pearl market, tianamen square, and the forbidden city. we went to the Great Wall on a hike and it was a beautiful 2 hr drive from the hotel. the weather was inclement while we were there so not much walking to be done. the breakfast was delicious both on the concierge floor and in the dining room. typical "bar" food in the bistro, with moderate english spoken by the wait staff. the italian restaurant in the hotel was very good with excellent service. The bar area was lively, and the service was good, i brought up a concern about hygiene in the prep area and the management quickly rectified the issue. The spa was a godsend after two long days on the wall, with facials and two massages, i can not imaging feeling any better. the staff is VERY professional and atuned to providing a thorouhgly relaxing experince. the pool are is well maintained and the separete hot tub and steam room areas are the perfect respite after a long day. accomodating group of staff, the air conditioning did not work so we had to open the window to cool the room, and long waits for a cab. all and all would stay here again.

The hotel is walking distance from subway and can take line 2 and change to line 1 to all the key locations in Beijing. The staffs are friendly and helpful. They have a good range of breakfast and room services. Overall, it's a great hotel to stay for few days on holiday.

This was my respite location after 3 weeks of travel across China. While this is a HUGE hotel, it really doesn't feel that much like a 1000 room type hotel. Many guests appeared to be one nighters leaving for cruises or other tours so there was always a good variety of people. Location is fantastic with easy access to the subway, railway station and cabs. Rooms are simply beautiful with the best shower and bed I have experienced in all of China. The internet was the most reliable and fastest in China as well. The workout, pool and spa facilities were excellent - one of the best hotel gyms I have used in a long time actually. Executive lounge for breakfast and cocktail reception was the best I have had at a Marriott. The spread of food during the cocktail hours was more like a dinner buffet than light snacks and the variety was impressively delicious. The staff was kind, attentive but not overly attentive and it made for a very comfortable 5 day stay at this Marriott. Actually, Marriott made this a perfect way to round out my Beijing experience.

I would definitely stay here again, but offer some things to consider as you book your trip. The hotel was clean and nice, pretty lobby to greet us when we arrived at 2am due to a late flight. The first concern was that we were there in the winter (it snowed) but the rooms were not easily temperature controlled. it was HOT in the room and would not cool. We had to have housekeeping open the windows (kept locked for safety) just to get the room comfortable enough to sleep. The beds were comfortable and clean. The second thing that was a concern is the lack of standard western hygeine conditions at the bar. We noted the bartender tasting drinks he mixed directly from the spoon and then restirring the drink! It was troubling enough to call it to the attention of the bar manager who did make an interjection - but remember you are in a country without the standard health department protocols we have here! All in all, I would defnitely stay again (Platinum member Marriott) but would order bottled beer!

We recently spent 8 nights at this hotel. We are gold members so we stayed on the executive lounge floor, where we were whisked up for check in. Efficient and warm reception, welcome glass of juice and a towel. The service at this hotel was really exceptional, Sarah, Meiro, Anna, and Nancy were great, especially Sandra (exec lounge) and Friendy (bellman). Breakfast buffet in the lounge was fantastic, the usual items as well as some Chinese offerings such as fried noodles, fried rice, and dim sum. The gym is huge and very well equipped. The indoor pool is also a nice place to relax and great for swimming laps. There is a spa but we never tried it as the prices are expensive (on par with hotel rates but you can get the same services outside the hotel for much less). We walked everywhere from this location - about 40 minutes to Tianamen Square and about 20 - 30 minute walk to Ri tan park and the Silk Market. This hotel is right by the Ancient Observatory which I found to be interesting and off the beaten path.

Hotel overall was very good... the two restaurants we tried were decent enough, though I highly commend the Cantonese restaurant they have on site, as someone from HK, the food there was up to par & Sundays they had a pseudo-Dim Sum buffet -- basically at a fixed price per head, order as many dim sum sampler dishes as you want; quality was excellent, very comparable to other HK restaurants. Rooms were spacious, clean, overall on par. Service was overall good enough for a Marriott. Location is quite a little more difficult... it takes many turns to get there/further from places so not all cab drivers know/want to go so they pretend they don't know. Best thing to do is contract out a car+driver for a day. No spectacular view, remnants of the city wall makes for interesting scenery, though I could see into the office building directly across from me/possibly part of the hotel lot, that was strange. Also came back from a long day out, wanted to get a facial, I called down to ask if they were still open/doing facials, they said yes, went down to the spa & said they didn't have the right staff to do the facial I wanted, though the rest of the family did get messages; only unsatisfactory comment there. Basically, we did a lot of sight-seeing & didn't spend much time in the hotel other than sleeping time.

Otherwise, overall a good hotel.
