Beijing Jianguo Hotel

Was at the Jianguo for 2 different stays in September for a couple of nights each stay. Goo location near the China World Trade center in one direction and all the counterfeits your heart could desire the opposite direction at the Silk Market or whatever it's called. The Jianguo provides a clean room with excellent service at good value for price. Beware to book your taxi to airport one day in advance if you are leaving at peak travel times as you could find yourself waiting upwards of 45 minutes for a ride.

30 years showing itself. nice rooms with private balcony. all mod cons and good a/c. stayed on exec floor and had happy hour at 6pm. same day laundry good. breakfast near koi carp pool very nice. bit of a home home. staff in exec lounge look harrassed though.
On top of metro station and spitting distance of Silk Market for cheap goods.

I had booked a business room but was offered an upgrade for a small amount which would give me a suite, supposedly better breakfast, free internet and a special happy hour offer in the bar. I realize now that the only thing that was actually worth anything was the room upgrade, but that was not worth the cost. I would not go for that upgrade if I came back and I wouldn't recommend it if they offer it to you.

The suite felt a bit old but was still quite nice with a cool bathroom, but there was a strange smell that was still in my clothes when I came home to Sweden. Mold? They put several bottles of water in the room every day and the cleaners did a good job.

The lobby area is kind of strange with no seating area except for what feels like part of a bar/restaurant, where you might feel uncomfortable sitting without ordering anything. The lobby is still nice, but both the rooms (at least the one I had) and restaurants/bars felt old and in need of renovation.

The staff was very nice and helpful and the location next to the subway station and Starbucks is excellent. The subway is cheap, fast and gets you away from that horrible traffic. It's most likely the best way to get around Beijing.

The hotel seems overstaffed with lots of people just standing around apparently doing nothing.

When I stayed in Jianguo Hotel for the first time in 1989, it was one of the few luxurious hotels in Beijing. Today, Beijing offers a wide variety of excellent hotels but I still call Jianguo Hotel my home from home on my yearly 5-6 business trips to Beijing. Friendly staff, a gym, pool and sauna, good breakfast and convenient location -just beside Yong' anli subway station which is three stations away from Beijing's main shopping street and four stations from Tian' anmen Square- is what I need. The guest rooms are also of high standard after the whole place had been renovated not too long ago. And since interior walls have been treated with an antistatic agent, it even does not require courage anymore to touch a door knob...a longtime problem that longed for a solution. For me, Jianguo Hotel is an excellent choice

advising others of our experience everything is great except that the place is so ovestaffed that they end up acting like policemen, which means guest relations are zero and understanding of travelers and their bookings particularly by Internet is also zero, so, a rotten time was guaranteed and we were hassled at breakfast and in the evening to report to this or that supervisor because they did not understand an Agoda booking, next time, we will stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: high rooms as you are on one of the busiest roads in the world

Even as there is some history associated with this hotel, and is an old property- the rooms are quite decent and lavishly furnished. A lot of glass partitions makes the bathroom appearance larger than it actually is-with generous sprinkling of tolietries and towels... Even the room amenities include all that you can think of ,or may need- right from tea coffee maker to ironing stand etc.

The breakfast has a good choice of western and Chinese specialities. In fact, as we had an early flight to catch- they even packed us some nice chicken sandwiches and fruits.

The location is very central, and access to all the key Beijing sites like TianemmenSquare etc are within easy reach.

The Jiangou was one of the first western style hotels built in post-communist China. As a student there in the mid-1980s it was the only place with pizza and was a regular stop for me on visits to Beijing from the hinterlands. Over the past 25 years of visits to Beijing I have actually never stayed there but had a drink at Charlies bar. So this time I thought I should really stay at the Jiangou. I got a good deal on the executive room floor and off I went.

The room was fine and had a nice balcony (although a rather sticky sliding glass door Rm #466 for the management). Charlies was great as usual and the breakfast was very good as advertised. The service was polite and of course the location is unbeatable.

Overall I think the Jianguo is going to my new Beijing address.

Room Tip: Go for the executive floor if you can get a good rate.
